High School Course Information

FOR RISING 8TH GRADERS ONLY

MGMS offers 8th graders the opportunity to take Math 1 for high school credit during their 8th grade year. Ms. Kincaid also offers Spanish 1 for high school credit. It is highly recommended that students have taken Spanish in middle school before signing up for the high school credit Spanish 1. If you are interested in this course, please contact Ms. Kincaid independently by email april.kincaid@nhcs.net.

Please keep in mind that this is a high school level course and require a deeper level of commitment to schoolwork. Courses at the high school level are 80 min long, whereas the middle school schedule only allows for 1-hour classes.

IMPORTANT INFO: Students taking high school courses in middle school only receive the credit for the class. The grade itself doesn't transfer and has no affect on a student's high school GPA. HOWEVER, the final exam is worth 20% of your overall grade. There are also no honors courses offered at the middle school level so all students taking Math 1 in 8th grade are taking General Math 1.

Math Placement Criteria

Use the QR code below to indicate your interest in taking Math 1 in 2023-24.

This must be completed if you want to take Math 1 and you are not currently enrolled in compacted math.

The Teacher Recommendation Form has been sent to teachers in their email. The Teacher Recommendation Form has been sent to teachers in their email.

Students who submit a piece to the Cape Fear Teen Scene magazine each month will be entered into a raffle for a prize!
