École Maple ES Family Update

Week of December 9-13

École Maple ESFamily UpdateWeek of December 9-13

Hello Ecole Maple Families,

We are excited to have some snow on the yard to play with! Just a reminder to students and families that snow stays on the ground unless it's for building, respectful of other people's creations, and that climbers are closed due to slippery surfaces and frozen ground below.

On Tuesday, December 10th we have our December SAC meeting! Please feel free to join us to learn about all the amazing things happening around the school and with our School Advisory Council.

We have our Kinder winter concert on Wednesday, December 11th from 5-6pm. Our Primary (grade 1-3) winter concert will be Thursday from 5-6pm.

We also hosting Piano recitals on Wednesday-Friday in the makerspace from 11:15-11:55.

Finally, we have our Jingle Bell walk on Friday December 13th at 12:15! It is also our holiday/winter colours spirit day. Please bring in your food bank donations!

We are looking forward to another amazing week!

Prepare for Winter-Related Bus Delays & Cancelations - Tri-Board

During the winter (roughly late October to early April), Tri-Board works closely with our school bus companies to determine if it is safe to offer school bus transportation on inclement weather days. School buses function differently than other vehicles and sometimes, although it is safe for the average family vehicle to travel, it is not safe for a school bus to be on the road.

NEW for Maple: Established Meet-Up Locations for Walkers NEW for Maple: Established Meet-Up Locations for Walkers

In collaboration with the City of Kingston and KFL&A, Ecole Maple is excited to offer an opportunity for families to access established meet up locations for their student (s) who are walking from the neighbourhood indicated on the meet up location map. Families may decide to walk with the group, or set up a network where this could be scheduled with other families in the neighbourhood. At the end of the school day, students can also access the meet up location at the Gazebo for their walk home. As indicated, there is the advantage of increased safety when traveling in numbers as well as an opportunity to make friends and build community.

SchoolMessenger App

Why Use the SchoolMessenger App?

When you join SchoolMessenger, you will be able to:

  • receive imporant information from LDSB
  • join classrooms and extra-curricular groups
  • report a student's absence (same day and in advance)

Reporting A Student's Absence:

The new student absence reporting system will let you use a mobile app, a website, or an interactive toll-free phone number to report an absence in advance. These options are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Future absences can be reported at any time.

If your student is marked absent and the absence hasn’t been reported in advance, our new SafeArrival system will attempt to reach the student’s priority contact by telephone to confirm the absence. If our system is unable to reach the designated contacts, school office staff will follow up.
