Sarah Mergian welcomes all students with enthusiasm, grace and kindness. A transitional kindergarten (TK) teacher at Sycamore Canyon School for five school years, and counting, Ms. Mergian is a strong advocate for inclusion in the classroom, and has been making a positive impact in the Coyotes’ community since her arrival.

Ms. Mergian leads by example, fostering a culture of respect among students by greeting them around campus, including everyone in playground activities, and encouraging them to care for one another. She provides class lessons and activities that are so inspiring that students and staff alike are excited and want to replicate the activities.

At the Tuesday, April 14th staff meeting at Sycamore Canyon School, Ms. Mergian was surprised with the April 2026 Teacher of the Month recognition. She was presented with a commemorative plaque from the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce, along with a $300 teacher grant from the Conejo Schools Foundation, and received congratulatory wishes from CVUSD’s leadership team and members of the Greater Conejo Valley Chamber of Commerce’s Education Committee.

Congratulations Ms. Mergian on your well-deserved recognition for the positive impact you make each and every day! Click here to read more.

Friendship, Inclusion & Fun at the Annual Unified Soccer Tournament Friendship, Inclusion & Fun at the Annual Unified Soccer Tournament

On Friday, Thousand Oaks High School hosted the annual Unified Soccer Tournament, bringing together our three nationally recognized Unified Sports programs from Thousand Oaks High, Newbury Park High, and Westlake High Schools.

Throughout the morning, Unified Athletes and Unified Partners took to the field side by side, demonstrating not only their soccer skills but also the power of collaboration, encouragement, and friendship. Every pass, goal, and cheer reflected a shared commitment to sportsmanship and support for one another.

More than just a tournament, the event highlighted what makes Unified Sports so impactful: the friendships formed and the sense of belonging fostered within each team. While there were plenty of exciting moments on the field, the true victory of the day was the strong sense of community and connection that brought everyone together.

Way to go Unified Lancers, Unified Panthers and Unified Warriors!
