May is National Stroke and Blood Pressure Awareness Month. 1 in 5 adults with high blood pressure don’t even know they have it. It’s also estimated that 1 in 25 youths ages 12-19 have high blood pressure or hypertension. What is the cause of our adolescents having these “adult” types of health issues? Well, a lot of it has to do with our weight, our lifestyle, and the food we eat. Over time, untreated hypertension can lead to heart disease, kidney disease, and stroke. Make yourself and your loved ones a healthy promise to prevent these diseases by monitoring your blood pressure, watching your salt intake, and eating fruits and vegetables. Small healthy changes to our lifestyle can add years to our lives. See the infographic to educate yourself on high blood pressure and stroke awareness. Click here for more information on how to be a Stroke Hero.
