The Hiawatha PTO and school librarian, Ms. Snow, are excited to bring the Cardboard Challenge to Hiawatha Elementary School!

Students have been exploring the history of the Cardboard Challenge, inspired by the heartwarming story of Caine's Arcade. Next week, they’ll unleash their creativity as they brainstorm and design cardboard creations during library classes.

We invite you to join us in celebrating their creativity at the Hiawatha gymnasium on Saturday, October 19th, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Don't miss this opportunity to help make their amazing projects come to life!

We need your cardboard! Cardboard drop-off times will be available every morning from October 15th–18th.

Look for the drop-off area outside the concrete shed. Clean, flat cardboard only, please.

SEL update from Ms. Weston SEL update from Ms. Weston

Hello Hiawatha!

Our students have been working hard, developing their skills in following classroom and schoolwide routines. We are proud to Be Kind, Be Safe and to Be Curious.

Next week, we will start our next Social Emotional Learning unit, called Emotional Management. Students will be learning to describe emotions in themselves and others, and become curious about stressors that change their emotions. Students will also be trying a variety of emotional regulation strategies, and making choices about which ones work well for them.

All students are participating in Inner Explorer, a daily short mindfulness practice. If you are interested in trying this at home, please be in touch with me.

You can also contact me with any other questions or input into our Social Emotional Learning at Hiawatha School.

Take care,

Alice Weston
