A Taste of Excellence
HOW OUR SCHOOL MAKES LUNCH BETTER
WRITTEN BY: LYVI VILLALOBOS

Lunch is the time of day that makes everyone feel brighter, it relieves hunger as well as boredom. School lunch is the place where light shines down upon us, due to it allowing us to be able to meet with our peers and find a place where we fit in.

When you think of school lunch, do you think of people or food? Food, probably. We've been taught our entire lives that food is what lunch is, but here at West Point Jr. High—we make it more.

Our hearts reside in food and people; we strive for excellence and to achieve it we need both aspects.

Some food options we have here are sandwiches, pizza, and salads. But those are just the basics! There are many more options here day-to-day, we rotate throughout food! And for a full lunch it costs only $2.50, such a great price for amazing food!

In the media center, there are so many activities for you to participate in. Some of them are basketball, skateboarding, V.R., reading, and foosball! There are live events in the pit for you to watch and play in; the Hope Squad or student government hosts those usually!

And guess what? You can sit anywhere during lunchtime! The collabs, outdoors, the cafeteria, the hallways, even on the bridge! There are people everywhere that you can converse with, you can make up missing work, and you can experience the livelihood every student should.

And that is why West Point Jr. High makes lunch better, hope to see you at lunchtime Warriors!

A First Look Into Descendants By: Sophie Zwahlen & Braelyn Foster A First Look Into Descendants By: Sophie Zwahlen & Braelyn Foster

A First Look Into Descendants

Is it in your DNA to be wicked, or can you rewrite your own destiny? That's the question facing the West Point Junior High cast, who are bringing the story of your favorite villains and heroes to life. After interviewing Mrs. Hayward, we learned some new things about the musical and the people in it.

Mrs. Hayward is the one bringing this amazing story to life! After interviewing her, the excitement to see Descendants has only grown. One of the questions asked was, “How does the audition process work?” She responded, saying that kids who are prepared and not afraid to take chances are usually the ones who stand out the most. How interesting is that? Something else that was shocking was how strategically everything is thought out. For example, the next question we asked was “When designing costumes, what main things do you keep in mind?” Her response was function and telling a color story. For example, Mal is the only one the entire show who wears purple. This is so when you’re watching the show, she is easy to find and stands out in a crowd. Every little detail is so interesting and it shows how much Mrs. Hayward cares for her students and all of her amazing cast!

Now, let's see what the cast members have to say about this fantastic-sounding musical! After interviewing lead roles: Griffin Chapman (Carlos), Jude Loftus (Jay), Adam Taylor (Ben), and on the phone, Emmeline Jagmin (Evie), we find out how they are doing with the musical and the prior auditions. After asking each member, "Why are you excited to have this role?" Griffin Chapman answers first with, "I'm excited to have this role because a lot of my friends said it was the perfect role for me to have." Following along with Jude Loftus saying, "I'm excited to play Jay because I've always wanted to play a role like this. Usually the other roles I have played are like, funny or whimsical characters. So, I am excited to play a different character, a new character for me." Isn't that exciting?

Another question asked was, "Is this how you expected it to be, as a main role, during rehearsals?" Adam Taylor responded with, "Uh, it was kind of exactly what I expected. Like, it just seems pretty basic." Emmeline Jagmin picks up the question and tells us something pretty interesting! "Yeah, it is what I expected because I've been like supporting roles before. Not like the main lead, but I've seen my friends being leads which got me an understanding of it. But, it's nice to feel looked up to."

And that's your first look at Descendants, Warriors!
