Brunwick PreschoolNewsletterNovember 8, 2026

Dear Brunswick Preschool Families

This week, children learn about the habit of eating well and making healthy choices. The word of the week is nutritious, which describes foods that are good for our bodies. Families can practice this concept at home by discussing healthy snack options, inviting children to assist in the kitchen, and identifying the five main food groups (fruits, grains, vegetables, dairy, and protein) during meals. When grocery shopping, parents are encouraged to examine nutrition labels together to compare sugar content and explore how store aisles group similar items. Additional details can be found in the Family Connections Newsletter. You can fund this week’s storybook, β€œWhat’s for Dinner?” HERE.

If you have any questions or concerns about the program, please don't hesitate to reach out! I am always here to support you and your family,

Helping Kids Adjust to the Time Change Helping Kids Adjust to the Time Change

Adjusting to the time change can be very challenging. This article from Nationwide Children’s Hospital offers practical advice for parents on helping children adapt when setting clocks back for Daylight Saving Time. Because a sudden schedule shift can disrupt a child's internal body clock and lead to early waking or bedtime struggles, the article recommends:

  • Gradual Schedule Shifts: Move bedtime and wake-up times 10–15 minutes later each night during the week before the time change.

  • Consistent Routines: Stick to familiar evening habits (bathing, reading, cuddling) to signal wind-down time.

  • Light Management: Use blackout curtains for early morning sun and encourage exposure to evening natural light to help reset the body clock.

  • Nap Adjustments: Shift naps gradually alongside bedtime, keeping them from running too late.

  • General Sleep Hygiene: Maintain cool, dark bedrooms, limit evening screens, and avoid late-day caffeine.

For the full set of recommendations, read the complete article on Helping Kids Adjust to the Time Change.

Your Voice Matters! ο»Ώ ο»ΏWhat's working? What's missing?

Dear Autism Community,

ASGA and ElevateDD are hosting a listening session on Monday, November 16th to hear directly from people with disabilities and their family members about their experiences with disability services and supports in Ohio. We want to hear what is working, what has been difficult to navigate, what supports may be missing, and what you think needs greater attention. What you share will be part of a broader statewide effort to identify common themes and help inform future advocacy, planning, and systems-improvement work.

This event is open to individuals of all ages, including self-advocates, family members, caregivers, and community professionals connected to the DD community, especially those with no formal advocacy experience.

We are looking to identify:

  • What is working well
  • What is difficult to understand or navigate
  • What services or supports are missing
  • Where people continue to encounter barriers
  • What people wish providers, disability organizations, policymakers, and system leaders better understood

Depending on the group, topics could include early intervention, education and IEPs, healthcare and therapies, Medicaid and waivers, respite, transportation, employment, housing, adult services, caregiver needs, transitions across the lifespan, community inclusion, and advocacy. We will look across what we hear to identify recurring themes, priorities, barriers, strengths, and opportunities that can inform community voice briefs, future planning, advocacy, and systems-improvement conversations.
