Welcome back, and happy New Year! I hope you were able to rest, reflect, and spend meaningful time doing the things that recharge you.

One of the things I’m most grateful for as we return is a renewed sense of stability. We have officially cleared the final major hurdle of our bond work, and we are now fully settled into our permanent classrooms. After the flexibility and patience you’ve shown over the past two years, it feels good to finally say: we are home.

As we move forward, I hope you’re feeling refreshed and energized to continue shaping our future together—supporting students, strengthening instruction, and building the kind of campus culture we’re proud to be part of. The work ahead matters, and the consistency we now have allows us to focus even more deeply on what matters most: our students and each other.

Thank you for the dedication, grace, and teamwork you bring every day. I’m truly excited to begin this next chapter with you and to see what we accomplish together this semester.

Here’s to a strong start and a great 2026!

📈 Celebrating Strong Student Growth

We want to take a moment to celebrate several teachers whose students showed strong progress toward annual typical growth and meaningful gains in placement. This kind of growth reflects consistent instruction and intentional support:

  • Ms. Gamez (3A – Math)

Students reached 91% progress toward typical growth, with 61% moving up in placement.

  • Ms. Davila (3C – Math)

Students achieved 71% progress toward typical growth, and 57% improved their placement.

  • Ms. Hernandez (KC – Reading)

Students reached 72% progress toward typical growth, with 60% showing improved placement.

  • Ms. Flores (3C – Reading)

Incredible results—students reached 145% progress toward typical growth, and 86% improved their placement.

  • Ms. Gamez (3A – Reading)

Students showed 131% progress toward typical growth, with 55% improving placement.

  • Ms. Flores (3D – Reading)

Students reached 114% progress toward typical growth, and 56% moved up in placement.

  • Ms. Armenta (4C – Reading)

Students achieved 90% progress toward typical growth, with 53% improving placement.

  • Ms. Hernandez (4A – Reading)

Students reached 106% progress toward typical growth, and 55% improved placement.

🎯 Hitting (and Beating!) the Target

We also want to recognize teachers whose students exceeded their target raw score and made strong progress toward their half-band goals:

  • Ms. Flores – 76% of students met their ½-band goal

  • Ms. Gamez – 72% of students met their ½-band goal

  • Ms. Davila – 97% of students met their ½-band goal

  • Ms. Gamez – 89% of students met their ½-band goal in Math

  • Ms. Bustos – 67% of students met their ½-band goal

Thank you all for the daily work you do to move students forward—these results show it.

Bond Updates

  • I’m happy to share that all building furniture has been successfully replaced, and your classrooms will be fully ready for you tomorrow morning. This marks the final major milestone of our bond program!
  • I know the past two years have required a great deal of flexibility as we’ve adjusted and relocated multiple times. Thank you for your patience and professionalism throughout the process. We are now in a place where we have full access to all classrooms, and there will be no further moves.
  • You may also notice several new additions around campus tomorrow—see how many you can spot!

Campus Updates:

  • Makerspace: Scheduled to open on January 9

  • Garden: Work will begin this spring

  • Office Spaces: A few offices will be renovated. While there are still multiple components remaining, all remaining work will be completed after hours to minimize disruption.

Furniture Expectations:

  • All furniture assigned to your classroom must remain in your room. Furniture should not be placed in hallways.

  • Please plan to have a clear and intentional conversation with your students about caring for our campus furniture and the role they play in keeping our campus clean and our new spaces well maintained.

Thank you again for your flexibility and support as we reach this exciting milestone.

SPRING INSTRUCTIONAL PRIORITIES

Assessing student progress with purpose

Assessment is intentional and embedded in daily instruction. Lessons include clear checks for understanding that reveal whether students learned the objective, and this evidence is used to guide reteach, review, spiral, and next steps. Students actively track, reflect on, and celebrate their progress so learning is visible and meaningful.

Strengthening expectations for small group instruction

Small group instruction is purpose-driven and responsive. Teachers and students have clear expectations for small groups, grounded in evidence of student learning. Instruction in small groups is informed by student work and data, with close attention to the quality, rigor, and progress of student thinking.

Rigor, agency, and instructional lift

Instruction prioritizes student thinking and academic rigor. Students do the majority of the cognitive work through explaining, justifying, and problem-solving. Tasks align to the full rigor of the TEKS, and teachers use intentional instructional moves to support growth for students across the achievement continuum.
