Message from the Superintendent
May 15 - Thank You, Nurses!
Dear RSU 21 Community,
As National Nurses Week comes to a close, we reflect on the significance of its final day, May 12, which marks the birthday of Florence Nightingale who is largely considered to be the founder of modern nursing. Nightingale believed that compassion, skilled care, and advocacy could transform lives and strengthen entire communities. Her dedication to serving others, often in the most difficult circumstances, has helped save millions of lives and shaped the standards of care that continue to guide the nursing profession today.
That same spirit is reflected every day in the work of our school nurses. Beyond treating everything from bumps and bruises to lice and lacerations, our nurses serve as caregivers, advocates, educators, and trusted supports for students and families throughout our district. They play a vital role in keeping our schools safe, healthy, and ready for learning, often providing comfort and reassurance during moments when students need it most.
We are deeply grateful for the professionalism, compassion, and commitment our school nurses bring to their work each day. Their impact extends far beyond the health office, helping students feel supported, cared for, and empowered to succeed. Please join me in thanking our outstanding school nurses for the extraordinary difference they make in the lives of our students and school community.
Sincerely,
Martin Grimm
PS- I would like to remind everyone that the RSU 21 School Board will host a workshop meeting on Wednesday, May 27 at 7:00PM in the Kennebunk High School Auditorium.

Occupational Awesome
This week we're taking a trip down to the Port to give an occupational therapist some well-deserved thanks. Pull up a chair, get comfortable, and let's all practice some gratitude today by saying thank you to Karli Whitney! Here is what our submission had to say:
The students happily go with her for therapy and return in a good mood as well! She has started Best Buddies along with Monique Cook at KCS!
I feel better already just knowing that she is there for our students. Thank you, Karli!
*In our newest segment, The RSU 21 Community News will be highlighting anyone in our community (employee, student, or volunteer) that YOU think has done or consistently does something spectacular. To make a submission, please fill out this very brief form. *
Around the District - RSU 21 Highlights
Kennebunk Elementary School- We are proud to celebrate six of our elementary students who recently showcased their determination, energy, and school spirit by participating in a variety of athletic events at the York County Special Olympics. They took part in running and walking races, a softball throw, and both standing and running long jumps, demonstrating perseverance and enthusiasm every step of the way. Their willingness to try new challenges and support one another made this a truly special experience. They represented KES with pride!
Mildred L. Day School- When students at Mildred L. Day School arrived each morning during our Maine Through Year Assessment window, they were met with a building full of color, encouragement, and warmth — and that was entirely intentional. Our incredible MLDaymakers transformed our hallways with uplifting decorations and encouraging messages that reminded every child they are seen, believed in, and cheered on. Our teachers worked tirelessly to help students approach testing with confidence rather than anxiety, setting personal goals and celebrating growth, while our families sent their children in each morning with the most important message of all: your best is always more than enough. The result was a school community that tackled a challenging week with optimism, resilience, and genuine pride — and the energy in our hallways said it all.
Kennebunkport Consolidated School- Congrats to our Special Olympians! KCS had nine students registered to participate in the Special Olympics on last Friday. The school sent our Olympians off in style with a special send off. Our students participated in a walk/run, a softball throw and a standing jump. Everyone did amazing!
KCS staff members had a fun week with an undercover spirit week. Ask your children if they notice staff wearing anything different this week, such as sunglasses or construction gear. Students seemed to enjoy it along with us!
Sea Road School- This week, the Sea Road School 5th Grade Band performed their spring concert to a full house! The students did an amazing job showcasing all that they have learned this year through their hard work, dedication, and practice. We are so proud of their performance and the confidence they showed on stage.
Middle School of the Kennebunks- MSK had an amazing 12 participants participate in Special Olympics last Friday. Students and staff filled the halls to give the athletes a terrific send off. 10 students from the MSK Best Buddies program also attended the event in support of our Special Olympians. Congratulations to the MSK groups on their incredible performances and support. We are proud of your hard work, determination and sportsmanship. Way to represent MSK!
Kennebunk High School- Senior Projects will begin Monday, May 18.

RSU 21 Attends Special Olympics
RSU21 had 43 participants registered for the York County Special Olympics hosted on May 8th! It was a beautiful, sunshine-filled day, and the excitement on and off the field was incredible.
Several schools created posters to cheer on and celebrate our Olympians, and wonderful send-offs took place before athletes boarded the buses for the big day.
Our MSK Best Buddies also joined the celebration by making bracelets with students, sharing in student successes, and celebrating together with bubbles and smiles all around.
We are so proud of all of our athletes for their hard work, determination, and sportsmanship. Congratulations to everyone who participated in this amazing event!
