Mesquite Elementary

Week of October 28, 2024
Notes from Norburg
Dear Mesquite Elementary Families,
Welcome back from Fall Break! We have had a great and busy first week back. This week I would like to highlight and say thank you to our strong sixth grade team. We are grateful for the rigorous expectations that Mrs. Cochell, Mrs. French, and Mrs. LeClaire provide for our students! Sixth grade is a pivotal year as students prepare to transition to junior high. We are grateful for a team that is dedicated to the success of every student! We appreciate our sixth grade team and the difference they make at Mesquite!
I also wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to our sixth grade students! We are incredibly proud of our sixth grade students this year as they are leading our campus well. In fact two years in a row they have gone on field trips where those leading the field trips have told our teachers this is by far one of the best groups they have had. Keep it up sixth graders! As you start thinking about junior highs for next year, please know that we feed into Greenfield Junior High School, South Valley Junior High School, and students have the option to apply to Gilbert Accelerated Middle School at Gilbert High School, Gilbert Classical Academy, and/or Gilbert, Talented, and Creative Program at Highland Junior High School.
Sincerely,
Wendy Norburg

Election November 5 - GPS Budget Override Continuation Information
Gilbert Public Schools Governing Board approved that in November 2024, voters living within Gilbert Public School boundaries will decide on a proposed 15% budget override continuation. This would be a continuation of the existing budget override approved by voters in November 2019 and in place since the 2020/21 school year. The existing override generates approximately $36 million annually to:
- ensure competitive salaries to recruit and retain high-quality teachers and staff in classrooms,
- maintain programmatic choices for students creating future ready graduates,
- maintain campus safety and security personnel and,
- maintain class sizes with allocation to class size reduction.
