CCS Update 8.28.26

Welcome Students!
Our students are back, and we couldn't be happier! It has been a wonderful first week of school, even with the full moon adding a little extra excitement. While there were a few transportation hiccups at the start, most issues have now been resolved. Throughout the week, teachers have been helping students settle in by reviewing classroom expectations, routines, and daily schedules. It has been great to see our students reconnect with friends and begin another successful school year.
Every day we're shuttling!
In collaboration with the CTA, we are pleased to share that CCS now has a shuttle bus! The shuttle will be used to transport small groups of students within the community for educational and work-based experiences. Currently, one teacher is trained and certified to drive the shuttle, with additional staff members interested in becoming certified as well. This new resource will help reduce the need to use large buses for transporting only a few students, making community-based instruction more efficient and cost-effective.
CCPS Phone-Free School Day: New Expectations
From the Department of Student Services
NEW and beginning this school year, CCPS students may not use personal electronic communications devices during the school day, from the time they enter the building until dismissal. This includes cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, earbuds, SMART Glasses, and similar devices during arrival, classes, transitions, lunch, recess, assemblies, and dismissal.
For elementary and middle school students, these expectations are largely consistent with current practice. The most significant change is at the high school level: students may no longer use cell phones during lunch.
The districtwide expectations are outlined in CCPS Policy 3175: Cell Phones in Schools and align with Maryland's newly enacted Joanne C. Benson Maryland Phone-Free Schools Act, which establishes statewide requirements for limiting student use of personal electronic devices throughout the academic school day.
These expectations are designed to reduce distractions, support learning, strengthen face-to-face connections, and create a positive, focused school environment.
If you need to reach your child during the school day, please contact your school’s main office. Thank you for partnering with us to help students stay focused, engaged, and connected.
Weekly Folders
A lot of information was sent home in weekly folders this week. Among the items sent home:
- Student Code of Conduct
- Free and Reduced Meals application (must be renewed each school year)
- Cafeteria menus
If you did not receive these items, talk with your student then call the office to request that they be sent home again.
