Hawk Pride News - Eng 10/2/2026

Dear HJH Parents and Guardians,
As we move through the semester, we encourage all students to stay focused on their academics and finish strong. Please help your child by encouraging them to study for upcoming tests, practice their math facts regularly, complete assignments, and come to school prepared each day with the materials they need.
The habits students build now will help them be successful not only in their current classes but also as they prepare for upcoming state assessments. Consistent attendance, daily effort, and support from home make a tremendous difference in student achievement.
Thank you for your partnership and continued support. Together, we can help our students end the semester strong and reach their full potential.
Sincerely,
Araceli Altamirano
Assistant Principal of Harby Jr High

Vape Presentation for 8th Graders
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We would like to inform you that all 8th grade students will be attending a Vape Awareness Presentation at Alvin High School (AHS) on November 12.
The presentation will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. and is designed to educate students about the risks and consequences associated with vaping.
Transportation will be provided by Alvin ISD. District buses will take students to Alvin High School and return them to campus after the presentation.
We believe this presentation will provide valuable information to help students make healthy and informed decisions.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.
Attendance Message
We know that regular school attendance plays an important role in student success, and we appreciate your partnership in helping your child build strong attendance habits.
Please be aware that when a student accumulates seven (7) unexcused absences, whether for a full day or part of a day, the school is required to begin the paperwork process that may lead to court involvement. Our goal is to work together with families to prevent this from happening and to keep students engaged in their learning.
If your child is sick and must miss school, please provide a doctor's note so the absence can be properly documented and considered for excusal.
For high school classes, attendance is especially important because students must attend at least 90% of their classes to earn course credit. Missing too many days can affect academic progress and may impact a student's ability to receive credit for a class.
Thank you for supporting your child's education by making school attendance a priority. If you have questions or need assistance with attendance concerns, please contact the school. We are here to help and support your family's success.

Communities In School Message
Here's a polished and parent-friendly version of your message:
Hello Harby Junior High Parents and Guardians,
If you would like to enroll your student in a fun, supportive program during the school day, please use the link below to sign them up for Communities In Schools (CIS) at Harby Junior High.
Our mission is to surround students with a community of support, empowering them to stay in school and achieve success in life.
At CIS, we believe every child needs and deserves:
- A one-on-one relationship with a caring adult
- A safe place to learn and grow
- A healthy start and a healthy future
- A marketable skill to use upon graduation
- An opportunity to give back to their peers and community
We provide services that meet real needs and create meaningful opportunities for students and their families.
What CIS Offers at Harby Junior High
Students enrolled in CIS have access to a variety of activities and supports, including:
- Lunch groups
- Morning groups
- Opportunities to spend time outdoors during lunch
- Friendship-building activities
- Social skills development
- Additional support and encouragement throughout the school year
We believe your child can benefit from participating in CIS. All services are provided at no cost and take place during the school day. However, students are not pulled out of class, as their academic learning remains our top priority.
If you are interested in enrolling your child, please follow the link below and complete the Parent Consent Form.
Once the form is submitted, you will receive an email from Adobe confirming your electronic signature. After confirmation, your student will be officially enrolled, and services can begin.
As part of the CIS program, students may also complete a brief survey. This survey helps us better understand their strengths, interests, and needs so that we can provide the best possible support.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please feel free to contact me.

Upcoming campus safety deployment at Harby Jr High
As part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and security of our students and staff, Harby Jr. High will conduct a single day weapon detection screening in the upcoming weeks. The campus was randomly selected to pilot this initiative at a junior high campus.
These screenings are an additional layer of safety designed to help maintain a secure learning environment for everyone on campus. Upon entering the building, students will be randomly selected to participate and will walk through the weapon detection screener. This process will be conducted by trained staff and with campus administrator supervision. The process is designed to have minimal disruption to the school day.
The safety and well-being of our students and staff remain a top priority, and we appreciate the continued support of our Harby Jr. High families as we work together to keep our schools safe.
