Small Change - Big Impact
Dear Chloe Clark Families,
At Chloe Clark Elementary, we believe in the power of kindness, generosity, and the impact even the smallest gestures can have on our community. That’s why we are excited to launch our school-wide service project: Small Change, Big Impact!
This project is all about showing our students that even a little can go a long way. We invite families to send in spare change—pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters—all of which will be collected and donated to Steilacoom Food Pantry. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to see firsthand how working together can make a meaningful difference. The Steilacoom Food Pantry link provides weekly assistance to families and even delivers to our school.
We encourage you to talk with your child about the importance of service and how small acts of kindness can create big waves of change. Thank you for supporting this project and for being a part of our caring Chloe Clark Community!
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
With gratitude,
Loretta Duncan

Circle of Control
Happy Wednesday!
This week, we are beginning a new lesson on the Circle of Control. Often, when problems or conflicts arise, it is because we are focusing on or attempting to control something that we have no control over. Children need to recognize what they can control and what they cannot. It also helps reduce anxiety when we focus on what we can control rather than what we can't.
Focus on What You Can Control: By concentrating on the things you can control, you can reduce anxiety and have a better resolution for problems. For instance, if a friend asks you to do something you know is wrong, you have control over whether you do it. Or if you discover that your best friend is moving at the end of the year, you can focus on making a plan to stay connected or on cherishing the time you have together rather than worrying about the future.
Here are some effective ways to reinforce the Circle of Control concept at home:
- Family Discussions - Hold regular family meetings where everyone shares something they're worried about. Help each person identify what’s in their Circle of Control and what isn’t.
- Journaling - Encourage kids to keep a journal. They can write about their feelings and categorize their worries into things they can control and things they can’t. Visual Reminders- Create a visual chart that hangs in a common area. It can have two sections: "Things I Can Control" and "Things I Can't Control." Encourage kids to add to it regularly.
- Praise Efforts, Not Outcomes - Focus on praising the effort they put into something, like studying or practicing a skill, rather than just the results. This emphasizes their control over their actions.
- Problem-Solving Sessions- When your child faces a challenge, sit down together and brainstorm solutions. Guide them to identify what they can control in the situation.
- Story Time- Use books or stories where characters face challenges. Discuss how the characters respond and what they can control in their situations. Encourage Questions- When your child expresses worry, ask guiding questions like, "Is this something you can change?" or "What can you do about it?"
- Model the Behavior- Demonstrate the Circle of Control in your own life. Share Your Experiences of Focusing on What You Can Control and Letting Go of what you can't.
By incorporating these activities, you can reinforce the Circle of Control concept and empower your children to manage their emotions and reactions more effectively!
Have a wonderful remainder of your week!
