October Mental Health Newsletter
From your Conway Mental Health Team
Take a peek at what we are stirring up this month!
October is Bullying Prevention Month!
Bullying prevention is about creating a school community where everyone feels safe, respected, and included. Students can make a difference by being upstanders. An upstander is someone who speaks up when they see someone being treated unkindly, includes others, and gets a trusted adult when they need help. Being an upstander doesn’t mean handling a situation alone; it means choosing to help and make a positive difference.
Unity Day:
October 21st is Unity Day!
Unity Day is a day to come together to celebrate kindness, acceptance, and inclusion. At Conway, we can show unity by including others, standing up for what is right, and making sure everyone feels welcomed and valued.
Students and staff are encouraged to wear orange to show that we are united against bullying and committed to creating a kind and caring school community!

DESSA Screenings are Upcoming!
Beginning the week of September 14th, but before October 16th teachers will be completing these screeners in regards to our students' observable skills across these categories: relationship skills, responsible decision-making, social awareness, self-management, social-emotional behavior, and optimistic thinking. These 8 question surveys are part of the way that we identify counseling lesson topics across grade levels and ways that teachers can learn how to best utilize morning meetings and cooperative learning structures to meet their students' needs.
Mr. Hayden has sent more information regarding the process in his email. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your child's counselor for more information!
If you wish to Opt your child out of their teacher completing a screener, please complete this form.
We are so excited to be your Conway Counselors this school year!
Transitions & Separations
Are mornings feeling a little tough after the summer? While the shift in routines can bring on a new level of stress for most of us, little minds need a special type of support with separation. Below you will find some tips to help ease this transition time.
Please reach out if your child is having difficulties. We are here to help support that at school, too!
