Family Fun Night - Tomorrow May 15th!
Fourth Quarter Incentive - May 21st
We will be having our final quarter incentive, Wednesday May 21, for students who continually follow our HERO expectations! Students will be doing 5 stations that all contain water. If your student would like to wear a bathing suit UNDER their clothes they can, but the clothing will need to remain over the bathing suit the entire time. After water recess is over, students will have the opportunity to change into dry clothes, if those are provided from home. If a change of clothes is not provided from home, the school DOES NOT have extra clothing and we will not be allowing students to call home to get other clothes.
We strongly encourage you to send in an extra set of clothes and have students wear water friendly shoes that are closed toed (no flip flops or slides!)

We will be collecting ALL Chromebooks from fourth-grade students
Around May 14, you will receive 3 bins/totes and labels in your classrooms to collect the Chromebooks
The District will send communication to families that the collection will begin on May 20
Please communicate to remind families about the collection through SeeSaw or Talking Points.
Chromebooks should be returned by May 23
Place the label with the student's name on the charger. Place the Chromebook and charging cord in the tote. Then, place any unused labels in one of the totes.
Students can continue to use the Chromebooks through May 23rd. Please do not send devices home during the collection period.
Moving?
If you know that your student(s) will no longer be attending Sycamore Creek Elementary next school year, we encourage you to let us know. This helps us in the fall when we are trying to track down students that we were expecting to attend , but haven't shown up. If we are aware that a student will be moving and attending a different district, we can reach out to that district and confirm the move. Until we are in communication with the new district and they have requested your student's records, your student is considered our student and will be marked absent.
If you have a student in grades K-3, and know that they will not be attending Sycamore Creek Elementary next year, please email the principal at pamela_bertke@plsd.us. We greatly appreciate this communication and wish your family all the best.
Sign Up to Volunteer
We are super excited to announce that the volunteer form has become electronic across all schools in PLSD. This means that the paper forms that have been used in the past will no longer be used to sign up to be a volunteer. You can easily sign up to be a volunteer right now by using the QR code below or the link provided. If you have been a volunteer in the past, you must sign up again. Volunteer approvals are only good for the school year in which you signed up.

Information from our Instructional Coach
Greetings Families,
If your child is in 3rd or 4th grade, then you are familiar with the Studies Weekly for science and social studies. This newspaper - style format for 3rd and 4th grade science and social studies can also be used to reinforce reading skills at home.
Here are a few tips.
Read an article with your child. (Fluency)
Ask your child to tell you what the article was mostly about. ( Comprehension)
Ask your child “who”, “what”, “when” , “where”, “why” and “how” questions about the article. (Comprehension)
These would be great for summer reading after they are sent home.

Your support has made a lasting difference, and we simply couldn't have done it without you. This school runs better, feels kinder, and accomplishes more because of you. And while we may not have had time to thank you every single day (sorry about that!), please know how deeply grateful we are for everything you've done. Thank you for showing up, stepping in, and lending your hands and hearts. You are the reason we've come this far and the reason we can look forward to even more success next year! So here's to YOU our incredible, tireless, generous volunteers. Thank you for being part of our school family and for helping create a year full of fun, laughter, and community!
