Dear Bronco Families,

It is truly an honor and a privilege to work with your children each day. We are grateful for the trust you place in us to teach, support, encourage, and care for your children. Every student who walks through our doors brings unique strengths, talents, and potential, and we are committed to helping each child grow both academically and personally.

We know that our greatest success comes when school and home work together as partners. You are your child’s first and most important teacher, and the conversations, encouragement, routines, and learning experiences you provide at home make a tremendous difference in your child’s success at school.

📚 Keep Reading at Home!

One of the most powerful things families can do to support their children is read together every day. Whether your child is listening to you read, reading to you, reading independently, or talking about a favorite story, these moments build vocabulary, comprehension, confidence, and a lifelong love of reading.

In Vista Unified, we empower every child to become a confident reader through research-based instruction, early screening, targeted intervention, and strong family engagement. Please make reading together a regular part of your home routine and celebrate every milestone along the way!

⏰ A Quick Morning Reminder

We also want to remind families to please plan to arrive a little earlier in the morning. Students should already be on campus and in their class lines, ready to begin the day at 7:55 a.m. Giving yourself a few extra minutes can help make the morning calmer and safer for everyone.

As you enter and exit campus, please remember:

  • Right turns only when entering and exiting both our upper and lower parking lots.

  • Please do not make illegal U-turns in the roadway. Plan your route accordingly and follow all traffic laws.

  • When dropping off or picking up your child, please pull all the way forward to keep traffic moving and allow as many families as possible to safely use the loading areas.

  • Most importantly, drive safely and patiently. Our greatest priority is getting every child to and from school safely.

Thank you for partnering with us, supporting learning at home, and helping us create a safe, welcoming, and successful school community. We are so grateful to be on this journey with you and look forward to another wonderful week of learning and growth!

Together, we can help every child learn, grow, and thrive.

Tips for Practicing High-Frequency Words at Home Tips for Practicing High-Frequency Words at Home

High-Frequency Word Bingo-Create a Bingo card with 9-12 squares on it. Write in the high-frequency words your child needs to practice. Also, create a deck of cards with the same words for the caller to read. When your child places a marker over the word, have them read the word aloud and spell it. The first one with a line or card covered wins.

Writing with Chalk or in Shaving Cream- Spray shaving cream onto a cookie sheet. Give your child a high-frequency word to spell. After your child has spelled the word, have them read and spell it. Erase the word by smearing the shaving cream. Your child can also use chalk to practice writing and reading high-frequency words by writing them on the concrete outside.

Memory- Write each high-frequency word on two separate index cards. Spread the cards out and have your child choose two cards. They should read the words and see if it is a match. If it’s a match they keep the words, if not, they put the cards back in the same position. The person with the most cards wins.

Flashcard Fun- Using index cards, write 20-30 high-frequency words on each card. Flash the card to your child and have them read it. Hide the word and have your child spell it using magnetic letters, a whiteboard or paper and pencil. If they are able to read it and write it they keep it. For fun, you can write the word “SNAP” on two index cards, if your child draws a “SNAP’ card they have to give all of their cards back.

TIc-Tac-Toe - Write high-frequency words in tic-tac-toe spaces. Take turns selecting a word to read from a stack of high-frequency words. If read correctly, place an X or O in the space.

There are many ways to practice high-frequency words, these are just a few ways to practice at home. Be creative and try inventing your own ways to practice these words at home.

We are looking for H.E.R.O’s.

A H.E.R.O is a student who is Here Everyday, Ready and On time. We can work hard to make sure all Bobier Broncos are H.E.R.O’s. Did you know that too many absences in preschool and elementary school can cause children to struggle socially and academically according to Attendance Works. (attendanceworks.org)

Here are some tips for being a H.E.R.O:

  1. Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.

  2. Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before.
