Principal's Message
Good morning, Tiger Nation.
I promised two things when I was hired as Principal in this incredible building- clear and consistent communication, and sustainable and reliable systems. I do my best to be transparent, and will always be honest and share the hard news. This message is a heavy one as we work through the implications for our double levy failure. Part of the impact is that we have to increase class sizes in order to reduce payroll costs. On Friday, we notified six staff members who were being laid off, and this week, we begin the displacement process, where teachers will be moved to other buildings based on their seniority. While we always try to minimize the impact on students, there is no way around the feelings that come when we lose amazing educators. I often emphasize the word "AND", meaning two things can be true at the same time. This news is so hard, AND I know if we stick together we will get through this.
The timing is less than ideal given it is Teacher Appreciation week. I encourage you to love on your teachers- bring a treat, make a card, tell them how much you value them. A note of thanks brings a lot of joy! If you would like us to deliver a message for you, click here to fill out this Google Form. A special thank you to Tapani Underground who is sponsoring a luncheon for our staff this week. We are so grateful for you!
Please send questions my way. I am always available to take a call, sit down with you, or come chat with you while you at one of our many amazing events.
With you,
Heather

To do this, you will need to use Google Takeout. If you are interested in saving your files, please note this must be done soon, ideally before the end of June. Check out the link below and follow the step-by-step instructions:

Class of 2025 graduations
Graduation ceremonies will be held in just a few months. Learn about the plans for each school.
Speaking of graduation, did you hear that BGPS' class of 2024 had the highest graduation rate in more than a decade?
Finally, in recognition of the many ways that students achieve academic success, BPGS will expand recognitions at high school graduations starting with the class of 2028 (freshmen in 2025). Each high school will recognize the top 5% based on GPA but will not designate a valedictorian and salutatorian. Class rankings will continue to be available as needed. Learn more about this change.
Online accessibility
Ensuring all students have access to a quality education is a primary focus for Battle Ground Public Schools. Technology is a key to enabling access for students with various needs and challenges. Common accessibility tools include text-to-speech (read aloud), speech-to-text (voice dictation), color contrast options and magnification adjustments.
Accessibility features fall under the umbrella of Inclusive Technologies. Visit the district’s online resources page for more information on these resources and how you can access them if needed.

Running Start opportunities
The Running Start program allows students who have completed 10th or 11th grade but have not yet started the next grade to enroll in college courses tuition-free, earning both high school and college credits simultaneously. This program can help students get a head start on their college education while saving money. New for this summer: Students who have completed 10th grade can now participate in Running Start during the summer term, taking up to 10 credits.
Fee waivers are available for students who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals, ensuring cost is not a barrier to participation. For more details, including how to apply and access fee waivers, please contact your school counselor or visit the Running Start webpage.
Report Incidents Anonymously with Safe Schools
Please report bullying, intimidation, harassment, threats and safety concerns using our anonymous reporting system. Reporters can remain anonymous. Emergencies should always be reported to 911. Learn more about emergency procedures and safety protocols.
Report, don’t repost
If you see or hear of a possible threat, please report it to law enforcement directly and/or to school staff. This is the best and most helpful action because it begins an investigation and helps to limit the potential for misinformation to spread. Reposting or sharing a threat on social media in an attempt to warn others spreads the threat farther from its original source and may cause unnecessary alarm and fear. You can report bullying, intimidation, harassment, threats and safety concerns using our anonymous reporting system. Emergencies should always be reported to 911.
