School Wide PBIS Expectations
Celebrating Our Disney STARs
At Disney Elementary, our PBIS program helps us teach, model, recognize, and celebrate positive behavior throughout our school. Our students are learning every day what it means to Be a Disney STAR:
S – Show Kindness
T – Take Responsibility
A – Always Be Safe
R – Respect Others
Over the past few weeks, our teachers have been busy teaching and modeling these expectations throughout the building, including during our PBIS Circuit Training. A Disney STAR Behavior Matrix and STAR Contract were also sent home for families to review with their students. We encourage families to talk about these expectations at home and help reinforce what it means to be a Disney STAR! Now it is time to celebrate our students for putting these expectations into action!
🌟 STAR Tickets & Disney Store – When students are caught being a Disney STAR, they can earn a STAR Ticket! Each Friday, tickets are drawn and selected students get to visit our Disney Store for a special reward.
🍩 Monthly SuperSTARs – Each month, students who go above and beyond demonstrating STAR behavior and our monthly character trait are recognized as SuperSTARs and invited to a special donut breakfast with the principal!
✨ Classroom Shining STARs – When an entire class is caught demonstrating outstanding STAR behavior, they earn a Shining STAR for their classroom chart. Once the chart is filled, the whole class earns a fun reward!
🏫 School-Wide STAR Tower – STAR Tickets also help our entire school! Each week, tickets are added to our STAR Tower. When we reach our school-wide goal, EVERYONE celebrates! Our first goal is to fill the tower halfway to earn an indoor snowball fight and hot cocoa!
🏆 Mickey & Minnie Awards – Mickey and Minnie are traveling awards that visit two classrooms each week! The Mickey Award travels to the classroom that is the cleanest and neatest at the end of the day throughout the week. The Minnie Award travels to the classroom that consistently demonstrates outstanding Disney STAR behavior in the lunchroom throughout the week.
Last week, Minnie visited Miss Capoferri’s 6th grade class, while Mickey visited Mrs. Ostrowski’s 5th grade class!Congratulations to both classrooms for setting a great example!
We are so proud of the many ways our students are showing what it means to be a Disney STAR. Thank you, families, for partnering with us by reviewing our STAR expectations and encouraging these positive behaviors at home.
PBIS September Character Trait: Kindness
“In a world where you can be anything… be KIND!” 💛
At Disney Elementary, we are proud to focus on a different PBIS Character Trait each month to help our students grow not only academically but also socially and emotionally. For the month of September, our focus is on Kindness — an essential part of being a Disney STAR!
Throughout the month, students will be learning what kindness looks like, sounds like, and feels like in all areas of our school. Being kind helps create a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
What does kindness look like at Disney?
✨ Using kind words and a friendly voice
✨ Helping others without being asked
✨ Including everyone — no one sits alone!
✨ Treating classmates, teachers, and our school with respect
✨ Celebrating the successes of others
Teachers will be recognizing students who consistently demonstrate kindness, and these students will have the chance to be celebrated as SuperSTARs at the end of the month. We encourage families to talk with their children about kindness at home and how small actions can make a big difference in our school community.
Together, we can continue to build a positive and supportive environment where every Disney STAR shines bright!

Great Start to 4th Grade
We are off to a wonderful start in fourth grade! Over the first few weeks, students have been busy learning classroom routines, building new friendships, and working together as a classroom community.
One of our favorite activities so far has been a STEM building challenge. Students worked in teams to plan, create, problem-solve, and make changes to their designs along the way. It was exciting to see their creativity, teamwork, and perseverance in action!
We have also begun working with our new ELA program, Wit & Wisdom. Students are diving into engaging texts, building their reading and writing skills, and participating in many student-guided discussions. These discussions give students the opportunity to share their thinking, listen to different ideas, ask questions, and support their responses with evidence from the text.
We are so proud of the positive start our fourth graders have made and are excited for all of the learning, growing, and fun still to come this year. Take a look at some of our students in action!
Learning iPad Expectations in 21C
Ms Argiri-Slone's 21st Century Classes were buzzing with energy this month as students eagerly prepare to receive their iPads for the new school year. Everyone is working hard to master essential expectations—from practicing two-handed carrying to keeping screens face-down when it is time to listen. The students are showing incredible responsibility and pride as they learn how to care for their devices like true tech pros. With these routines in place, they are more than ready to unlock new ways to create, collaborate, and explore!
Celebrate Red Ribbon All Month Long!
Red Ribbon Week: October 23–31
2026 Theme: “Make a Difference. Be a Hero. Stay Drug Free.™”
Red Ribbon Week is a time for schools and families to encourage healthy, positive choices. At Disney, our celebration will begin Monday, September 28 and continue throughout October, leading up to a week of activities from October 26–30.
Wear Red Mondays: Students are encouraged to wear red on September 28 and October 5, 12, 19, and 26. We’ll also share Red Ribbon announcements on those days.
Learning and activities: In HEART classes, students will discuss healthy habits and positive choices and make a pledge to live drug free. Students in grades 1–6 will complete the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs unit during October. All students and staff will receive red awareness bracelets to wear during Red Ribbon Week. Each school day from October 26–30, five students wearing their bracelets will be randomly selected to win a prize—25 winners in all!
Spirit days, October 26–30. -SEE BELOW...
Poster contest: Students in grades 4–6 may choose to create a Red Ribbon poster. HEART teachers will collect entries, and winning posters from each grade will be displayed in the district during November.
Thank you for helping our Disney Students make healthy choices and celebrate Red Ribbon Week!

M-Step Scores
If your child participated in M-STEP (Michigan’s statewide exam) in the Spring of 2026, you will be receiving the results of his/her performance today in your child's backpack. The M-STEP expects students to demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving skills and to show their work in an age-appropriate way. In order to interpret your child’s score report, the Michigan Department of Education has created parent guides for every grade.
As we learn more about our district’s results, we will be able to make decisions that will help improve instruction. This is one measure of student achievement. We always use multiple measures to assess students in an ongoing way throughout the school year to identify student strengths, areas of need, and design instruction accordingly.
Please let us know if you have questions. Fraser Public Schools provides personalized instruction for our students in order to meet each child’s learning needs, and we appreciate your collaboration in that journey.
Canvas Parent Access
All Fraser classroom teachers provide instruction, resources, activities, and assessments to students utilizing the Canvas Learning Management System. As a result, students have continuous access to the course materials and information regarding their achievement.
Parents/Guardians can also have continuous access to their student’s course materials and grades in Canvas by creating a parent/observer account. In addition, parents of multiple students can easily switch between their students to view grades and assignments within the same parent account.
Parents can use Canvas to
Contact their child’s teacher
View grades, due dates, and events
See, and in many cases access, what the child is doing at school
Support an absent student
View classroom and building announcements
And more!
For the first step you will need to have two devices (tablet, laptop, computer or phone) available to be paired. One device will be used to log into your student’s canvas account. The other will be used to create your parent canvas account.
Log into Student Canvas Account on one device
- For parents/guardians of students whom are in young fives through 2nd Grade: A QR code of your students’ username and password will have been sent home. Use your camera function to scan the QR code to access your student’s Canvas Account. If you are having issues with the QR code, contact your teacher or elementary media tech.
- For parents/guardians of students whom are in 3rd-6th Grade: To log in as your student, have your student login to their Canvas account. Your student should know their username and password. If not, contact his or her teacher or your elementary media tech.
Create Parent Account on a second device:
- Open Canvas Parent Login
- Choose need a Canvas Account
- Follow prompts on screen to create account (see below resources for assistance)

Picture Day - Wednesday, October 7th!
This year we will continue to use SchoolPictures.com as our vendor. Picture day is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6th. Order forms will be sent home soon. All students will be photographed. Families wishing to order pictures in advance may do so by visiting the website and using the QR code. Picture retakes will occur on November 16th.
September is Attendance Awareness Month
Everyday Matters!
Regular attendance is one of the most important ways families can support student success. Every day at school gives students opportunities to learn, build relationships, practice routines, and stay connected to their classroom community.
Missing just two days of school each month can add up to chronic absenteeism over the course of the year. Whenever possible, please schedule appointments and vacations outside of school hours and make arriving at school on time a priority.
Of course, if your child is sick, they should stay home and get well. If your child is having difficulty coming to school for another reason, please reach out—we are here to help!
Every day counts, and we love having our Disney students at school!
Health Guidance for Attending School
At Disney Elementary, we want to partner with our families to create a safe, healthy, and welcoming environment for all of our students.
Please send your child to school if they are generally healthy and able to participate in their usual day-to-day activities. Avoid keeping children home unless they are truly too sick to engage in learning and school routines.
To support families in making these decisions, we’ve put together a helpful reference chart outlining when to keep your child home and when they can safely return to school for common illnesses.
Thank you for working with us to keep our students and staff healthy and ready to learn!
Beyond the Bell
Daily Attendance - (586) 439 - 6490
Calling in your child sick, an appointment or vacation? Please call the attendance line at any time of day at 586-439-6490. Utilizing the attendance line will assist our office staff with making sure attendance records are accurate.
Red Flag Outside Indicates Indoor Lineup
When the red flag is hung outside our front doors, this means indoor line-up. Students only can enter the building thru the main door (door #1) as well as the back door (door #18) starting at 8:20 AM.
Please utilize the car drop-off line and students will enter in the back of the building (door #18). If your child needs assistance, please park in a parking spot and walk your child to the main entrance (door #1). Student drop off is NOT allowed in the bus loop during indoor lineup.
Tribal Affiliation
In Michigan, schools are required to collect certain student information, such as enrollment, demographics, and program participation, and share it with the Michigan Department of Education. This process is required by state and federal law and helps monitor publicly funded education programs.
A new rule in the State School Aid Act now requires schools to also collect information about students’ tribal affiliations. This change was developed with input from Tribal Nations in Michigan.
Starting this school year, families have the option to share tribal affiliation information. Sharing this information is completely voluntary.
The data will help strengthen communication with Tribal Nations and may allow schools to qualify for additional funding to better support Indigenous students.
If a family chooses to share this information, it will be protected under privacy laws such as FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), which also prohibits discrimination.
If you would like to report your tribal affiliation, please complete the below form by October 7th.
