A Message from Ms. Curry

Hi Sandshore Families,

We had a wonderful first week back at school filled with smiles, laughter, and excitement for the year ahead. Students couldn't wait to tell us about their summer adventures and everyone thinks they have the best teacher at Sandshore this year! Thank you to the SHSP for the welcome back sign! It was a great addition to the front of the school.

Please consider joining the SHSP this year at https://shsp.membershiptoolkit.com/. Simply follow the link to join and help support this wonderful organization that does so much for our students and school community. Check out the flyers that were sent home this week full of information on upcoming events.

We look forward to seeing all of our parents and guardians at Back to School Night on September 12th at 6:00pm. Be on the lookout for our BTSN flyer coming home next week.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

Warmly,

Ms. Curry

Notes from our School Nurse, Mrs. Suzanne Herbst Notes from our School Nurse, Mrs. Suzanne Herbst

Regular school attendance is essential for your child's academic progress and social development. Prioritizing consistent attendance helps students stay on track with learning and build strong relationships with peers and teachers.

However, we also prioritize the health of our school community. If your child is feeling unwell or has a fever, please keep them home. Following these health guidelines from the NJ Department of Health and the CDC, students should remain at home for at least 24 hours after their fever has ended without medication. This helps prevent the spread of illness and ensures your child can return to school ready to learn.

Thank you for your support in fostering both your child's education and well-being.

NJDOH Respiratory Guidance for Schools

CDC Respiratory Virus Guidance

September Asthma Peak Ahead

Each year, September sees more emergency room visits and hospital stays due to asthma than any other month.

Several factors contribute to this September Asthma Peak. Ragweed pollen, the most common fall pollen allergy, is peaking. Mold counts go up as leaves collect outside. Children return to school and may catch respiratory infections that then spread to families and the community. Extreme weather and wildfires also impact lung health.

Here’s what you can do to prepare:

  • Visit your doctor or asthma specialist to review your symptoms and medicines

  • Monitor your symptoms and follow your Asthma Action Plan

  • Manage your allergies and your indoor air quality

  • Wash your hands often, and stay away from sick people as much as possible

  • Get rest, water, and healthy food

For more information on Asthma check out the Asthma and Allergy Foundation website at Asthma and Allergy Foundation
