PLC's
- What do the students need to know? (standards, instruction, HLP)
- How do we know they know it? (assessment, learning activities)
- What do we do if they still don't know it? (remediation, reteach)
- What do we do if they already know it? (acceleration)
All teachers are expected to bring evidence each week (per PSD). This is primarily assessment data but may include student work samples (ex. writing).
Reteaching is expected as a part of the CUA Data Analysis Protocol and the Formative Assessment Data Protocol subsequent to administering assessments. Assessment data will reveal learning gaps and necessitate reteaching to master standards. Please allow MAP assessment data alongside formative and common unit assessment data to inform your practice. Upload completed documents to the lesson plan folder.

Principal's Message
Dear Van Wert Family,
As we approach Parent Conference Day, our purpose is to share evidence of learning, celebrate progress, set clear next steps, and strengthen the home–school partnership. The key messages to communicate include each student’s growth and strengths (not just benchmarks), specific and observable successes across academics, social-emotional learning, and positive habits, the essential role of families as partners in students’ learning journeys, and clear next steps with supports and timelines.
Morning conference sessions run from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, a lunch break from 12:00 to 1:00 pm, and afternoon conference sessions run from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.
During conversations, use starter prompts that foster mutual respect and clarity, such as asking what the family has noticed at home that they’d like us to know, what the child is most proud of this quarter, what goals they’d like us to focus on next, how we can best support routines and learning at home, and whether there are barriers to learning we should be aware of (e.g., technology access or transportation). When presenting data, highlight a balanced mix across domains: reading (fluency, comprehension, retell accuracy, sight word growth), writing (narrative/opinion/argument progress, stamina, editing habits), math (fluency, problem-solving strategies, reasoning explanations), social-emotional learning (collaboration, self-regulation, conflict resolution), attendance/punctuality (improvements and supports), and engagement (participation in class activities).
To support families, provide plain-language explanations and avoid jargon, emphasizing growth and support rather than deficits, and offer a written summary of discussions along with next steps. Include concrete resources and follow-up options such as phone, email, or video calls to accommodate families’ schedules.
Materials that you can include for the conference: sign-in sheet, MAP assessment, class grades, attendance, and behavior.
Warm regards,
Will Zwingmann, Ed.S.
Principal
Safety Protocols
- Please, continue to review our safety protocols.
- Please ensure that all students go through the metal detectors in the morning.
- Please ensure that all classrooms doors are locked during the school day.
Conduct Collective Commitments
- Be at your doors during transition times. You may sit in a chair if you have health issues.
- Closely monitor students if they leave your classroom for restroom breaks. No students on Orange Hall should report to the restroom without an adult watching students go in/out of the restroom.
- Classes should be in separate areas during recess. Visits to the clinic tend to increase when multiple classes are in one space.
- Faculty/Staff should not be on cell phones during instructional time. Emergency calls are understandable
Time Off Request (less than 2 hours)
Please click and complete the Time Off Request Form for leave less than two hours. Once you have accumulated two hours, we will deduct it from your sick leave. All staff should use Frontline for leave that is two hours or more.
