Principal Duckworth's Notes
Week of February 2, 2026
Hello Northglade Families,
This month is Black History Month! Black History Month is an annually observed commemorative month originating in the United States, where it is also known as African-American History Month. It began as a way of remembering important people and events in African-American history, before it spread to other countries where it could celebrate black people worldwide. It initially lasted a week before becoming a month-long observation since 1970. It is celebrated in February in the United States and Canada, where it has received official recognition from governments, and more recently has also been celebrated in Ireland and the United Kingdom where it is observed in October.- Wikipedia
This year marks the 100th year of celebration of Black History Month. This month, students will hear about numerous noteworthy African Americans.
Throughout the month we will celebrate Black History Month by doing research. Our E2 Black History Wax Museum will be February 24. If you haven't experienced this, you will not want to miss it. More information is listed below.

Spring Shoe Ordering is Open to Everyone
First Day Shoe Fund provides new athletic shoes to students at public elementary schools in Kalamazoo County at no cost - We have opened ordering for Spring Shoes and ordering will remain open until February 10th at 6pm.
The best way to order is to place an online order through our website : www.firstdayshoefund.org/order or click on the link below. You will receive an email confirmation once your order has been submitted.
All students are able to receive a pair of shoes. Some parents do not take advantage of these free shoes, however, these could be your students "play" shoes.
For your convenience, last week, Ms. Emma sent home a paper copy with everyone, in case you have trouble ordering online.

Saturday School will begin February 21st. It will be held from 9:00 am - noon. Transportation must be provided by parents. This year, Saturday School will be held for 3rd graders only.
