Dear Trail Blazer Community Dear Trail Blazer Community

I hope you enjoyed the extended break and are gearing up for the Arctic blast heading our way.

As we head further into the spring semester, our students continue to excel across the Regional and State Levels! This past weekend showcased outstanding performances in UIL Wrestling, All - State choir and All State Orchestra, with our STATE Swim qualifying students gearing up to compete this weekend in Austin. These achievements reflect not just our students' dedication, but also the tireless support of our coaches, teachers, and community members. The strong bonds between our students, teachers, and coaches embody our Trail Blazer commitment to ensuring every student feels seen, heard, and loved.

Cold Weather Ahead

This week we will be adjusting our normal morning routine so that we can open doors to students at 8:00. We are hoping that this will offer some more flexibility for parents who need to drop students off earlier and at the same time keep our students safe and out of the extreme cold. Once students enter the building, they will be expected to report to the cafeteria and remain there until 8:20.

As we go through this week, please encourage your students to dress appropriately for the weather so that they are prepared in case of emergencies or fire drills.

Nurse Note

We have come to the time of year to expect cold and flu symptoms. Some of these are unavoidable but there are several things you can do at home to help prevent illness and keep everyone feeling healthy. Here are some tips to remember:

  • WASH, WASH, WASH YOUR HANDS! This is still the best defense against illness. Encourage your children to wash, especially before meals, using soap and warm water. To ensure they are taking enough time to adequately kill germs, have them sing the ABC song while scrubbing (about 20 seconds).
  • Get plenty of rest. School age children should get 9-11 hours of sleep each night. Grownups should try to get 7-8 hours.
  • Drink lots of fluids and eat a balanced diet - especially breakfast! I'm seeing a lot of students with stomachaches, nausea and headaches due to hunger.
  • A sick child cannot learn effectively and is unable to participate in classes in a meaningful way. Keeping a sick child home prevents the spread of illness in the school community and allows the child an opportunity to rest and recover.
  • Do not send a known sick child to school for the school to send them back home with an excuse, doing so exposures everyone around them to illness. Be sure to keep your sick child home and report the absence on our website. If you are concerned about absences, reach our to your physician or telehealth provider for a note.

Please see below for FISD guidelines to help you know whether your child should come to school or stay at home.

·A fever 100 degrees or higher. A child should not come back to school until the temperature is normal for 24 hours without medication. These medicines may lower the number and help a child feel better but do not treat the underlying cause, your are contagious until 24 hrs with no fever has passed.

· Vomiting or diarrhea

· A frequent cough

· Any rash accompanied by a fever

· Ear pain and/or eye drainage

· Sore throat with a fever and/or rash

If you have a change in address or phone number, remember to contact the school office. It is very important to be able to reach you in the event your child becomes ill at school. Please also let me know if your child is home with flu or strep. This information is reportable to the state and helps us maintain a healthy school environment.

Memorial High School would like to invite all FISD Junior and Senior classes to their upcoming Career Fair Wednesday February 19, 2025. This event will be held in the MHS Cafe from 5:30pm-7:00pm with representatives from numerous regional schools and programs that offer certification and trade opportunities.

Reminders Reminders

Weather Procedures

School closures are sometimes necessary to ensure the safety of Frisco ISD students and staff. FISD makes a final decision about whether to open schools no later than 5:30 a.m. each school day. Frisco ISD will notify families via email and text. Parents and staff can subscribe to FISD text messages by texting “Y” or “Yes” to 67587. The District and campus websites will also be updated with alerts of school closures, as well as the District’s Facebook and X accounts. Learn more.

Sign up for Emergency Alerts

Frisco ISD utilizes a text messaging service on a limited basis to communicate timely information such as school closures/delays or campus emergencies. Opt-in by texting “Y” or “Yes” to 67587. This system is maintained separately from Remind, which some teachers and coaches use to text message students and parents.
