The Capac Chronicle
April 10, 2026
Dear Capac Families,
As we move into April, we enter an important and exciting stretch of the school year. Spring brings renewed energy to our classrooms, opportunities for student growth, and a strong focus on finishing the year with purpose and pride.
Students across the district will be engaging in spring assessments throughout the month. These assessments provide valuable insight into student growth and help guide our continued efforts to improve instruction and support all learners. We appreciate your partnership in ensuring students are present, prepared, and confident during this time.
Beyond the classroom, spring activities, events, and celebrations are beginning to take shape. It is always a great time of year to see our students shine in so many different ways.
Thank you for your continued support of our students, staff, and programs. Together we are, Capac Strong. Go Chiefs!
Sincerely,
Dr. Amy Nelson

The Positivity Project
For the past three years, Capac Community Schools has implemented The Positivity Project (P2)—a character education initiative focused on helping students build strong relationships and understand their individual strengths.
Through classroom discussions and activities, students learn how character traits contribute to success in school and in life.
This month students will learn about fairness, appreciation of beauty & excellence, and purpose.
Fairness - Fairness means treating everyone with respect and recognizing that all people have value. It also means being open-minded and fair in how we approach situations. By teaching fairness, we help students develop into responsible, trustworthy, and kind individuals who care about others. Fairness builds the foundation for strong friendships and a positive community.
Appreciation of Beauty & Excellence -This means noticing and valuing the world's beauty and people's skills and not taking things for granted. Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence involves recognizing and enjoying what is admirable. Positive psychology identifies three types of goodness: physical beauty (like sunsets or music), exceptional skills or talents, and moral goodness (like character strengths). Appreciating beauty can inspire awe, skills can generate admiration, and moral goodness can elevate us. These feelings help us forget ourselves and find more joy and meaning in the world.
Purpose -Purpose means having beliefs about the meaning of life and feeling that your life has a purpose. It’s about wanting to be part of something bigger than yourself. People with a sense of purpose believe they are here for a reason. That reason can be different for everyone — it might be inventing something new, bringing joy through art or music, or raising kind and responsible children.
🎓 Portrait of a Graduate
Capac Community Schools is beginning the important work of developing a Portrait of a Graduate; a shared vision that defines the key skills, characteristics, and attributes we want all students to develop by the time they graduate from our district.
This work will help guide our instructional practices, programs, and opportunities so that our students are prepared not only academically, but also for success in college, careers, and life.
We value the input of our families and community as we shape this vision.
👉 Please take a few minutes to complete the survey https://forms.gle/fru3RYKGuric1N747 and share your thoughts on the characteristics you believe are most important for our graduates to possess.
Your voice is an essential part of this process, and we appreciate your partnership.
🏫 Bond Update & How Bond Funds Are Used
Thanks to the support of our community through the 2022 Bond, we continue to make meaningful improvements to our facilities that directly benefit our students, staff, and community.
Upcoming Projects for Summer 2026
- Updated lighting in the Jr.-Sr. High art room
- Updated weight room in the Jr.-Sr. High
- Updated flooring and storage in the band and choir room
- Updated stage lighting in the Cafetorium
These projects help ensure that our students are learning in safe, updated, and well-maintained environments.
How Can Bond Funds Be Used?
Bond funds are strictly regulated by state law and can only be used for specific types of expenses, including:
- Building construction, additions, and renovations
- Safety and security upgrades
- Technology infrastructure (devices, network systems)
- Furniture, equipment, and buses
What Bond Funds Cannot Be Used For
It is important to note that bond funds cannot be used for:
- Salaries or benefits for staff
- Daily operational costs (utilities, supplies, etc.)
- Instructional programming or curriculum
Those expenses are funded through the district’s General Fund, which supports the day-to-day operation of our schools.
Why This Matters
Understanding the difference helps clarify how schools are funded. While bond funds allow us to improve and maintain our facilities, they do not impact classroom instruction or staffing levels.
We are grateful for the community’s support in passing the bond, which allows us to continue investing in our district’s future while maintaining responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.
