🍂 October at Loess Hills School 🍂
Learning, Growing, and Celebrating Together!
October is here, and there is so much happening at Loess Hills! As the leaves begin to change, our school is busy with learning, family events, professional growth, and lots of exciting opportunities for our students.
🔥 Fire Safety Month
October is Fire Safety Month, and we are excited to welcome local firefighters to our school! Our students will have the opportunity to learn about fire safety, prevention, and what to do in an emergency.
A big thank-you to our local firefighters for taking the time to teach and connect with our students!

Students will have the opportunity to trick-or-treat from decorated vehicles in the school parking lot. We hope families will join us for an evening of fun, costumes, treats, and community!
📝 Parent-Teacher Conferences
Fall conferences are a wonderful opportunity to connect with your child's teacher, celebrate progress, and talk about goals for the year.
📅 Monday, October 27
⏰ 4:00–8:00 PM
📅 Wednesday, October 29
⏰ 8:00 AM–4:00 PM
We look forward to visiting with families and working together to support every student!
📚 Our School Learning Goals
We are excited about the learning happening across our building!
Our building goals in both reading and math include increasing the percentage of students meeting their i-Ready benchmarks by 2% from Spring 2026 to Spring 2027.
Our teachers are using student data to identify strengths, determine areas for growth, and provide instruction that meets students where they are.
📖 Supporting Every Learner
Our special education teachers are receiving additional training to strengthen the support they provide to their students. This professional learning is helping us continue to build effective strategies and systems that allow all students to learn and grow.
📕 Their Best Behavior
During professional development, our entire staff is participating in a book study of Their Best Behavior.
We are learning practical strategies for understanding and responding to challenging behaviors while building positive relationships and supportive classroom environments.
This shared learning gives our staff opportunities to learn together, reflect together, and put new strategies into practice.
🌟 So Much Learning Is Happening!
Our systems are up and running, and there is so much learning happening throughout Loess Hills! Students are settling into routines, teachers are using data to guide instruction, and our staff continues to grow professionally.
Thank you to our students, families, and staff for making Loess Hills such a wonderful place to learn, grow, and belong.
🍁 Happy October, Loess Hills Families! 🍁
We are excited for all that this month has in store!
Our Vision Statement

Bullying and Harassment Free District
The District is committed to providing all students with a safe learning environment in which everyone is treated with dignity and respect. The District’s Anti-Bullying, Harassment, and Hazing policy defines bullying and harassment as well as the procedures for reporting and investigating bullying or harassment complaints.
If your student feels they are being bullied or harassed, encourage your student to visit with the student involved and tell them to stop. They should also tell a teacher, principal, or trusted adult at their school. An online discrimination, bullying, harassment, and hazing complaint form is also available on the District’s website and may be completed by the student, parent, or school employee.
Be An Advocate for Our Schools
Volunteers are needed to join the District’s Grassroots Advocacy Committee. As a volunteer, you will receive email updates about important legislative events that could impact public education and be asked to contact local and state leaders to advocate for our schools. Volunteer today and let your voice be heard! Contact Communications@live.siouxcityschools.com to volunteer.
