Springmill STEM Elementary

Dear Springmill STEM Parents and Families,
We had a great start to the year last week! Our kindergarteners learned how to line up and some of them even figured out how to stay in the line as they walked down the hall. All of our teachers spent time helping out in the kindergarten room on Wednesday and learned how special the patience of a kindergarten teacher is!
Unfortunately, we had to have inside recess on Thursday - when everyone could have used a breath of fresh air! This week looks like we will get them outside at least once a day, though. Just remember, at a STEM school, when the weather is good, chances are high that teachers will find a reason to explore the outdoors with the kids, so have them dress accordingly. I saw many students bring in rubber boots this fall. We do have a few extra pairs, but not nearly enough to share with a whole class. If you see rubber boats on clearance anywhere, pick up a pair or two! We could definitely use them.
Thank you for your patience as the bus routes get figured out and the bus drivers learn the students and their routes. Since we have our own buses - we only have 3. All routes are new to them. All kids are new to the drivers. Things moved slow last week. This week, a couple more schools in Mansfield will be getting started and may slow us down a bit, but we will get everyone home! The parent drop off and pick up is going pretty smoothly, so thank you for following those procedures as well.
Yours,
Principal Cara Will
Homework Policy at Springmill STEM
We believe that schoolwork should be done at school, where they have teachers to get the help they need and the materials they need to get it done. That being said, it is critical that all students practice their reading skills at home in order to become proficient readers. We also feel it is important that students practice their basic math facts on a regular basis, which can also be done at home. This should only be practice, though, never work on something students are just learning.
However, if students are not putting in the effort to complete their work when they are given the time in class, arrangements may be made for schoolwork to be done on student's time - like during recess or during other "break" times during school. Teachers may also make arrangements with parents for work to be sent home in special circumstances with the permission of the principal.
If you don't see homework being sent home, this is why. If you have any questions, please contact your child's teacher.
