Dear Parents/Guardians,

The month of February includes a fun friendship holiday. We have a lot of important events and dates marked on this calendar. Next week we will be celebrating kindness week. We can make a difference in the world, by just one random act of kindness at a time. The staff and students here at Wharton School will continue to promote learning about kindness and developing appropriate relationships. We will continue focusing on social and emotional development.

We need your help!!! To keep disruptions down we would request that a note or letter be sent to school if you need to do an early pick up. Please contact the office by 2:00 so that any student who rides the bus can be removed from the list. Thanks for supporting the tardy challenge. February is an awesome month to show you care!

Our students have been working with Bruce Henry who is a teaching artist. He has been exposing our students to various styles of music. Mr. Henry is a professional musician and trained historian. On Friday, February 17th the students will display some of their talent to the students and staff in the form of a concert.

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

Updates and News from Ms. Schilsky...Our School Social Worker

Students earned a block party that just happened to coincide with the 100th day of school! Dressed as their favorite basketball star (on 2/3/23-Michael Jordan style) or their favorite 100-year old, students roamed the first floor of the school with friends playing games, creating art, walking, talking and snacking! Students shared what a fun afternoon this was and were happy to have a chance to mingle with kids frrom all different classes.

What's next-Kindness Week celebrated here at school with a week of out-of-uniform!

Thanks to Ms. Kirscher's class along with Ms. Cardenas for performing the play "Follow the Drinking Gourd". The title represents a song used in the Underground Railroad to give directions to the escaping slaves. The "drinking gourd" was the name for a hollow gourd that slaves would use to collect water.

The students did a fine job reading their scripts! What a wonderful way to learn about history and bring the experience to the classroom.

Social Language Group/Ms. Holland and Ms. Schilsky

A few weeks ago the students discussed the Chinese New Year with the students. In the social language group the students made fried rice. The students really enjoyed following the recipe and trying the food they made. They did a great job!
