Multi-Tiered System of Supports

MTSS NewsMulti-Tiered System of Supports

What is MTSS?

Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) is a term that encompasses supports for the whole child, taking into account academics, behavior, and social/emotional supports. MTSS is a school-wide approach that addresses the needs of all students, including struggling learners and students with disabilities, and integrates assessment and intervention within a multi-level instructional and behavioral system to maximize student achievement and reduce problem behaviors.

What are Statewide Technical Assistance Networks?

As part of the dissemination of discretionary funds that TEA receives under IDEA-B for state-level activities, TEA provides grants for statewide leadership networks. Networks address major, thematic topics that are identified as critical technical assistance and support needs for the state. Technical assistance, resources, and training from these networks are available to any local education agency (LEA) in the state and are intended to leverage best practices.

  2. School, Family, and Community Engagement Network (SPEDTex)
  3. Inclusion in Texas Network
  4. Texas Statewide Leadership for Autism Training (TSLAT)
  5. Tiered Interventions using Evidence-Base Research (TIER)
  6. Texas Complex Access Network (Texas CAN)
  7. Texas Sensory Support Network (TxSSN)
  8. Small and Rural Schools Network

  10. Multiple Exceptionalities and Multiple Needs (MEMN)

Network 5 - TIER

The Tiered Interventions using Evidence-based Research (TIER) network is developing comprehensive and coherent trainings and resources for evidence-based intervention practices across the state. The network strives to increase LEA and ESC capacity to develop and implement an effective, integrated, comprehensive framework for intervention that is grounded in differentiated instruction and aligns the systems that are fundamental for all students’ academic, behavioral, and social achievement.

The goal of the TIER project is to provide educators, caregivers, and other educational stakeholders with the knowledge and materials to ensure appropriate implementation of multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) in every school across Texas.
