Central ScoopSeptember 2026

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we move into September, I want to thank you for your continued support and partnership during the first few weeks of school. It’s been wonderful to see students settling into their routines, making new friends, and actively engaging in their learning. September brings renewed energy and focus, and we are excited to build on the momentum we’ve created. We look forward to a month full of growth, creativity, and collaboration as we work together to ensure every student has a successful and enriching experience. Thank you for entrusting us with your child’s education, and let's continue to make this school year one of the best yet!

Warm regards,

Melissa Williams

Cardinal Families,

It has been fantastic to see all of your children in the gym during the beginning of the new school year. As your child(ren) adapts to the rigors of the school day, their developing minds and bodies need nutritious foods, hydration, ample rest, and good hygiene to keep healthy and boost learning and mood. Below are a few ideas to implement to prioritize health and kick off the new school year strong.

  • Sleep: Children need 9-12 hours of sleep a night
  • Nutrition: Whole foods - cuts of meat and fish, variety of fruits and vegetables, nuts, seeds, and dairy. Eliminate or cut back on processed foods and fast foods.
  • Hydration: Water, milk, and other natural drinks like coconut water and almond milk without added sugars or dyes
  • Hygiene: Regular baths/showers, teeth brushing, ear cleaning, clean clothes, and clean bedding to sleep in.

Thank you for all you do!

Let's get strong together, Cardinal Families,

Coach Schaepkens

Transportation Tags

Please ensure that the yellow transportation and the QR identification tag (if your student is a bus rider) are securely attached to your child's backpack, as shown in the picture. This will help school staff and bus drivers quickly identify your child and ensure they go to the correct place.

Parent Pickup/Dropoff Parent Pickup/Dropoff

🚙 Morning Drop-Off - Car line only (Staff will begin opening car doors at 8:10)

  • Parents may walk children to the front door during the first week only. Please remember that district policy is that parents do not walk their children to class.

  • After the first week, drop-off will be car line only — parents must stay in the vehicle.

  • Please pull forward, and when the line stops, have your child exit the vehicle on the sidewalk.

  • Please do not park and walk your child up after the first week.

🚗 Parent Pick-Up: 2 options

🚗 Parent Pick-Up — NEW iDismiss System

Dismissal procedures will begin at 3:15 p.m.

This year, Central is using iDismiss, a new dismissal system designed to make student pick-up safer and more efficient.

Each family will receive a Parent Pick-Up Card with their child’s assigned number. Please bring this card with you every day at pick-up, whether you are using the car line or walking up. This card serves as both a tool to notify teachers when you arrive and your form of identification. If you need additional cards, please contact the office.

How iDismiss Works

When you arrive, a staff member will enter your child’s number into iDismiss and select your pick-up location. This sends an alert directly to your child’s classroom, letting them know that you have arrived and where they should go for dismissal. Last year we asked everyone to commit to walk-up or car line; however, with the new system, you can make the choice daily without communicating with the office.

🚘 Car Line Pick-Up

  • Have your Parent Pick-Up Card visible so staff can quickly enter your child’s number.

  • Once your number is entered, your child’s teacher will be notified to report to the car line pick-up zone.

  • Parents should remain in their vehicle at all times.

  • Students must be able to buckle themselves into their seat or booster seat so the line can continue moving safely and efficiently.

  • Please follow staff directions and pull forward as directed.

🚶 Walk-Up Pick-Up — Door 3

  • Parents choosing to park and walk up should report to Door 3 with their Parent Pick-Up Card.

  • A staff member will enter your child’s number into iDismiss and notify them to report to the walk-up pick-up zone.

  • Please wait at Door 3 for your child to be released to you.

  • Because parking is limited, once your child is with you, please return to your vehicle and leave campus promptly to make parking spaces available for other families.

  • Accessible parking spaces are reserved for vehicles displaying a valid disability parking placard or license plate.

📌 Please Remember Your Pick-Up Card!

Having your card ready helps us quickly identify your child and keeps dismissal moving.

💛 A Little Patience While We Learn!

iDismiss is new for our students, staff, and families. The first couple of weeks WILL be slower as everyone learns the new routine. We appreciate your patience! Once everyone becomes familiar with the process, we expect iDismiss to help make dismissal more organized and efficient.

Attendance Policy

This attendance policy is used district-wide at the elementary and intermediate levels. If a student has excessive absences (including excused), the following procedure will be followed:

Step 1: The teacher calls or conferences with the parent after 7 days absent.

Step 2: The teacher notifies the counselor and principal after 10 days absent. The principal and counselor will decide on future procedures.

Step 3: The counselor or principal will make student and parent contacts. Intervention strategies will be initiated.

Step 4: The principal may require a meeting with the GISD Attendance Liaison Officer. 39

Step 5: If attendance improves, the teacher monitors attendance and returns to Step 1. If attendance does not improve for students in Grades 1-6, the principal takes action up to and including filing truancy petition with the court.

The attendance policy can also be found on page 38 in our District Student Handbook. If your child is going to be absent, please call the attendance line so we can mark it as excused. (810) 591-0828

Birthday Treats

Central students and staff LOVE to celebrate birthdays! Due to ongoing concerns regarding food allergies, medical conditions and dietary restrictions, Davison Community Schools no longer allows food treats, including cake and cupcakes, to be sent in.

Please talk with your child’s teacher about alternate ideas for celebrating your child’s birthday .
