Message from Mrs. Coate
As we head into the heart of January, I want to share a few important reminders and celebrations with our families. Report cards and AIMSweb testing information were sent home on Friday—please take time to review these with your child, and don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions or would like additional clarification. I am also proud to share that we have many reasons to celebrate our winter benchmarking results. Our students continue to grow in both math and reading, with many showing more than half a year’s worth of growth already this school year. This progress reflects their hard work, along with the dedication of our staff and the continued support of our families. Thank you for partnering with us as we build on this success together!

Save the Date: PTO Game Night & Silent Auction
Steele School PTO is gearing up for our 4th Annual Silent Auction Fundraiser, and we need your help! We are seeking donations of themed baskets, gift certificates, experiences, merchandise, or other popular items to help raise funds for family engagement programs at Steele.
Whether you’re able to donate something personally or help secure a donation through your workplace, from a friend, family member, or community connection, every contribution makes a difference and helps make this year’s fundraiser even more successful than last year.
In January 2025, our 3rd Annual Family Game Night and Silent Auction raised over $3,000. Those funds allowed us to:
-
Provide meals for families at two family events
-
Offer a balloon artist, games, and inflatables at our Spring Carnival
-
Support teachers with meals during parent-teacher conferences
-
Purchase materials for Family Reading Night
-
Provide prizes for Teacher Appreciation Week
Family Game Night is free for all Steele students and their families, and for the past two years, more than 350 people have attended this fun, community-building event.
If you are able to donate an item or basket, please fill out the link or email Steele School PTO at steele205pto@gmail.com to share what you plan to donate. Donations may be dropped off at Steele School by Monday, February 16.
Please make sure your student is coming to school with weather appropriate outerwear for recess and remind them that it needs to be worn. We have hats, gloves, scarves and coats if you are in need. Please call the office or speak with your child's teacher to request these items.
Congratulations to Miss Hyzy for being nominated fo Shine in 205
The Shine in #205 program is a way for you to salute any CUSD #205 employee who goes above and beyond what is expected. Whether you are a parent/guardian impressed with that special touch your student's teacher added to a moment, a coworker who thinks their colleague doesn't hear often enough about the great job they are doing, or a community member who witnessed a staff member's commitment to students-you can submit a Shine nomination!
Rooms Messaging App
Please download the Galesburg App. When you receive your invitation email, then you can sign up for messaging. All staff will use this for communication this school year. Once you have the app downloaded, you will see your child's teacher and information in the app.
If you haven't received an email or text, you can reach out to the office to get a code. If you are having trouble connecting, please contact our main office at 309-973-2016
PTO Meeting Dates
All meetings are held at Steele in the library. Meetings run from 5:30 - 6:30 PM and are on the first Tuesday of the month.
