February promises to be an exciting month, filled with meaningful opportunities to connect and get involved. From the day program, Empowered Abilities, to Night to Shine, Davidson College Buddy Club, and the HIS Ministry Winter Ball, there truly is a social opportunity for everyone.

Be sure to review the Important Dates below and mark your calendar. While it can be tempting to remain within familiar routines, we and our loved ones benefit greatly from time spent building friendships and community. As the weather edges closer to spring, let us encourage one another to stay engaged, reach out, and explore new opportunities.

Thank you, Haerfest Coffee! Thank you, Haerfest Coffee!

As we anticipated last week’s winter storm, members of the Laura’s Village Board of Directors and friends gathered at Haerfest Coffee in Davidson. Overseers Toby and Cheri Foreman, along with their children, graciously shared their mission and welcomed us for a tour of their space.

Haerfest employs individuals with special needs and has created an exceptional work environment that honors each person’s unique work style. By thoughtfully engaging all the senses, they ensure that everyone who walks through their doors can experience coffee in the way that makes the most sense to them.

We left deeply inspired by the important work they are doing in our community—as well as by their outstanding selection of coffees. Laura’s Village is grateful for collaborators like Haerfest who are modeling inclusion with excellence.

We kicked off the new year with a Welcome Back scavenger hunt filled with selfies, bin name tags hunt, sensory challenges, and games. A perfect way to ring in 2026! We also partnered with Mt. Zion UMC Cornelius & Huntersville Youth Ministry to create 100 beaded crosses and assemble 100 sock bags for Room in the Inn, supporting men experiencing homelessness. No act of service is too small, our impact comes from the heart, not the size!! As winter continues, we’re diving into EA Winter Sports with hands-on activities like read-aloud sequencing, stained photo painting, and STEM foil skiers. If you can imagine it, we can bring it to life!
