Hines Herald
April 11, 2025
A Note from Mrs. Mathe
We had another wonderful and busy week at Hines! The week kicked off with a fantastic showcase of artwork from across the Grand Oaks Feeder Zone. We’re proud to have nearly 70 pieces of Husky art on display at the Jett Center for the community to enjoy and celebrate. A big congratulations to Sloane Agee and Ellen Joslin for receiving the Outstanding Artist Awards—what an amazing accomplishment!
Last night, our 4th grade Huskies wowed us during the Drumfit Program and Art Show! It was such a fun and meaningful way to celebrate their final year in elementary school, highlighting the special-area skills they’ve developed from Kindergarten through 4th grade.
This week, we had the pleasure of celebrating one of our very own, Savannah Bille, at the district’s Hispanic Achievement Award Ceremony. Savannah was recognized for her outstanding accomplishments and leadership, and we couldn’t be more proud of her. She represents the spirit of excellence we strive for at Hines, and we are thrilled to see her hard work honored on such a special stage. Congratulations, Savannah!
Today, we wrapped up the week with a fun-filled field trip to the Interactive Zoo and Aquarium! The weather was perfect, and our 2nd grade Huskies made some unforgettable memories.
Looking ahead, next week will be a bit calmer on campus. Please remember that Tuesday will be a closed campus due to STAAR testing for 3rd and 4th grade. Also, don’t forget that it’s a short week—we’ll have no school on Friday, April 18th.
Enjoy your weekend, Huskies!
Updates from our Crossing Guards
Crossing Guard Update (Intersection of Woodbridge and Lexington)
We are excited to have two new crossing guards at this intersection, Phillip Lewis and Carmen Smith, and they will be piloting a new traffic pattern.
New Traffic Pattern:
Walkers/Bikers will be held at the intersection with crossing guards for 3-4 minutes to allow vehicles to move through the intersection.
After 3-4 minutes, vehicles will be stopped to allow for all Walkers/Bikers to cross.
After the last Walker/Biker crosses vehicles will be able to move through the intersection again and the 3–4-minute timer will begin again as soon as another Walker/Biker approaches the crossing.
Hines Website Update Starting Next Week
Conroe ISD is updating its notification systems and websites! Over the next few weeks, you’ll see a new Hines website and may notice that our emails, texts, and social media posts come from a new platform. These improvements will help streamline communication, keep you informed about campus events, and provide more options for important call-outs.
Additionally, in the coming weeks, you will receive information about our new mass communication system called Alerts. Be on the lookout for texts from 98900 when the new system is implemented. Emails and texts may have a slightly different look, but they’ll still contain all the great information we share. These transitions are part of a bigger initiative to bring efficiency to the District’s communication platforms, and there are more exciting updates to come!
As a part of this roll out Conroe ISD has launched a new app that allows parents to receive push notifications directly from their child’s school. I encourage you to download the app to stay connected!
We also want to hear from you! Please take a moment to complete the quick two-question survey below to share your preferred method of communication. Your feedback will help us better meet the needs of our Hines community.
New Conroe ISD Mobile App
With the launch of the new district website, we also have a new mobile app!
Download the app on your mobile device and manage your notification preferences in the settings. You will be able to add school profiles when they are moved over to the new platform.
Key Features:
- Push Notifications - Select ‘yes’ when you download the app to receive the latest push notifications from the District.
- Calendar Events - Add events to the calendar on your personal mobile device directly from the calendar section on the app.
- News - Check out the latest District-wide and school news all in one place!
Look for the app below in your store:

3rd & 4th Grades STAAR Assessment
Dear Parents,
Hines Elementary 3rd and 4th grade students will participate in the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) Reading test on Tuesday, April 15th, and Tuesday, April 29th, 2025. Any necessary make-up testing will be administered the following day.
To ensure an optimal testing environment, Hines Elementary will be a closed campus for visitors on these days. This means we will not allow visitors on Tuesday, April 15th, or Tuesday, April 29th. Below, you will find the modified lunch and specials schedule for those two days.
We want our 3rd and 4th grade students to feel calm and prepared for testing. If your child is a car rider, walker, or biker, please aim to have them arrive by 7:45 AM. Testing will begin shortly after 8:00 AM, and arriving on time will help them settle in without feeling rushed.
Additionally, the building may be cooler than usual on testing days, so please send your child with a jacket.
Thank you for your support in creating the best testing environment for our students. We appreciate your cooperation!

Parent Access Center (PAC) Transition to Home Access Center (HAC)
Home Access Center (HAC) will go live on January 21 and will operate alongside the Parent Access Center (PAC) until at least Spring Break. During this transition, parents will have access to both applications. PAC will be decommissioned after Spring Break. NEW Absence Reporting System
In an effort to make things easier for our families, CISD is launching an app to help you report your students absences to our school when they are out. Documentation such as doctor's notes will still need to be submitted to our campus attendance office (vblock@conroeisd.net). We are excited about the convenience of this app.
You can access the app through the Parent Portal. The directions are below.
If you’d like to recognize a staff member, you can do so through your parent SSO by submitting a TAE. Any staff member is eligible for this recognition. When a TAE is submitted, both the administration and the staff member are notified, and the joy it brings to their faces is priceless. To submit a TAE:
- Log in to your Parent Access SSO portal.
- Click on Parent Access Center
- Click communication.
- Choose Staff/Teacher excellence from the drop down menu.
- Select the employee to receive recognition from the drop down menu.
- Click create TAE.
- Click any of the pre-populated choices that apply.
- Type any additional comments in the Additional Comment box.
- Click the box labeled Create Teachers Achieving Excellence button.
- Done!
