Lil Steamer Families --
One thing our staff and I have been working on this school year is finding ways to provide more learning experiences for our students. To those efforts we are planning a field trip for all 4th & 5th grade students on Thursday, Feb. 12 to attend Education Day for the Quad City Storm hockey game!
We understand that most of our students have never been to a hockey game. Many students still have never been to any semi-pro or pro sporting event. The school and PTO will be financing the trip so there is no cost to families as well.
We look forward to providing a day of fun, learning, and new experiences in our area for our Lil Steamers. Informational flyers were sent via email earlier this week, printed flyers were send home with students, and the flyer is attached in this week's newsletter.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me at jhoese@riverbendschools.net
Have a great weekend!

It is hard to believe that we are already in February! It has been a very busy start to the new year; however, I am excited for all of the AMAZING things that I have seen at FES! While the days can seem long at times, the years are short. February is the month of Valentine's Day, it is also the month that we focus on kindness. Kindness is the quality of being friendly, generous, and considerate. These are all qualities that we should all strive for each day. We know bad days happen; however, there are so many more opportunities for good days and spreading kindness. So, as we move through February, and we want to throw kindness around like confetti, I thought this would be a great opportunity to share some acts of kindness that could be completed at school and at home.
Kindness Acts at Home and With Family:
1. Help make dinner for your family.
2. Do a chore without being asked.
3. Give a family member a hug or compliment.
4. Make a "get well" card for a sick relative.
5. Help a sibling with thier homework or a game.
Kindness Acts at School:
1. Compliment a classmate.
2. Invite someone sitting alone to play with you.
3. Hold the door open for someone.
4. Help a teacher or custodian with a small task.
5. Let someone go first in line or a game.
To go along with kindness, I want to extend a HUGE, heartfelt THANK-YOU to Mrs. Meumann who goes above and beyond daily to support our students! FES is so lucky to have a school counselor who cares and supports our students like Mrs. Meumann does! Happy National School Counselor Week (Feb. 2-6) Mrs. Meumann! Thank you for all you do to make FES the Greatest Little Elementary in the Universe!

Technology is a big part of our children’s lives. I would encourage you to actively monitor your child’s technology use to ensure their safety. It is important to limit screen time, check their browsing history, and actively monitor the apps they are using and the text messages they are sending. It is so important to keep devices out of the child’s bedroom at night. If the device is in the room, there is a big temptation to use it. This results in students being sleepy the next day and struggling to focus and get along with others. Talk to children about online safety and encourage them to report concerns.
Meet the FBP/FES Family!
It is easy to learn about the teacher that your child/children have or have had. However, at FBP and FES, we are one large team. For this reason, we will introduce and give some fun information about each of our family members in our newsletter!
