Message From the Principal Message From the Principal

Dear Wildwood Families,

Hope you are all doing well and enjoyed the warm weather for a couple of days. It was good to see how warm weather affects our daily schedule, especially lunch and recesses. It’s nice that we have umbrellas at lunch time, they really help. Sometimes we move kids into the shade during lunch so they don’t overheat. We are hoping to get water bottle fillers in the near future which will help keep our kids hydrated. I can see hot days can be tough on the playground but it’s great that we have A/C in the building so they can cool off after recess and PE!

We had our monthly staff meeting this week. Part of our meeting was dedicated to the work that the PUSD DEIB Council has done, creating Social Justice lessons. With the four domains of social justice in mind (identity, diversity, justice, action) lessons were gathered and organized by grade level to support implementation in the classrooms. Teachers are already having discussions and teaching lessons in the classrooms around social justice, but having this resource will provide additional support.

It was discussed at the Parent Club meeting last night, that although things are going well at Wildwood, students continue to test language, using inappropriate words. It isn’t unusual, and please know, Wildwood isn’t different from other schools in this regard. But it’s important that the work continues, to support our students to learn the power of their words, whether it’s an insult, a racial slur, or a threat. Sometimes it’s under the guise of “teasing” but teasing can hurt. I appreciate the commitment of the staff, the Belonging Committee, and PUSD in supporting our work in this area of learning.

Thank you for all you do to support Wildwood!

Beth Rhine

Pickup Tomorrow! Traffic! Pickup Tomorrow! Traffic!

There is a PHS track meet tomorrow (3/27) and there will be buses in part of our loading zone. It’s going to make picking up students after school a little dicey. We will be out there to help facilitate. It might be a good day to park a block or so away and walk to school to meet your child. If you drive to the pick-up zone, please don’t leave your car unattended and make sure to pull up all the way. Once your child is safely buckled in, please head out! Thank you for your cooperation.
