A note from the Principal's desk

Dear Families,

Mid term Update

We hope you are enjoying seeing your child engage and progress throughout the term. Thank you for your ongoing partnership in helping make CPPS a safe, supportive, and thriving environment for every child.

Drawing Us Together competition

Last term, our Stage 3 Art Club students took part in a drawing competition in order to acknowledge Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories in celebration of Naidoc Week. The students drew pictures to match the stories and these were displayed at Bass Hill Plaza for everyone to vote for their favourites. The lucky winners attended an award ceremony where they were able to participate in a sweeping ceremony, learn about Indigenous tools, have their faces painted and learn about how the Dharug people used the stars to help them know when to hunt for emu eggs. Congratulations Bernice, Catherine, Sophia and Batoul.

Zone Athletics Carnival

After weeks of grey skies and endless rain, we were greeted with glorious sunshine for this year’s Zone Athletics Carnival. The warmth of the day seemed to match the energy and excitement of our students, who were eager to step onto the track and field to represent our school. A total of 36 students proudly took part in events including the 800m, 200m, 100m, Shot Put, Discus and the 4 x 100m Relay Race. From the moment they arrived, our students showed determination, good sportsmanship, and respect, upholding the values of our school both on and off the field. While not every student progressed to the finals, their results were a true reflection of the effort and heart they gave in each event. A special congratulations to Fay Fealofani, Muhammad Badaui, Abdullah Akra, and Eyad Mohamed who made it into the finals, with Muhammad Badaui finishing an incredibly close second in the Senior Boys’ 200m and 100m Final races. The day was filled with smiles, cheers, and an undeniable sense of team spirit. Beyond competition, it was a wonderful chance for students to experience an out-of-school event, challenge themselves, and develop their skills in so many areas.

We would also like to extend our gratitude to the parents and carers who came along to cheer from the sidelines. Your support means the world to the children, and having you there to share in their achievements made the day all the more memorable. Every student should feel immensely proud of the way they represented our school with courage, resilience, and outstanding character. See photos below.

Stage 3 Great Aussie Bush Camp

Our recent school camp was a wonderful experience for students and staff. Over three days, students took part in activities such as canoeing, rock climbing, raft building, the flying fox, giant swing and the ever-popular Mud World. Evenings were filled with fun too; movie night, challenge night and plenty of laughter. One of the highlights of camp was watching students step outside their comfort zones. For some, it was tackling the high ropes or giant swing, or others, it was sleeping away from home or trying something new for the first time. No matter the challenge, every student grew in confidence and resilience. Just as importantly, camp gave students the chance to strengthen friendships and develop teamwork skills in a fun and supportive environment. Camps are a valuable part of school life, and we strongly encourage families to consider sending their child in the future. The experiences, skills and memories students gain extend far beyond camp itself, staying with students for years to come.

Kindy Orientation

Last week we launched our Kindergarten Orientation sessions and were thrilled with the strong turnout—45 families joined us to begin the journey into school life at CPPS. Families received an overview of the orientation process and practical ideas on how to support their child’s readiness for school. Meanwhile, the children participated in engaging activities designed to help them feel comfortable in our learning spaces and begin building connections with our staff. These sessions are an important step in preparing children for a positive and confident start to school, and we encourage families to continue attending across the term. If you know any families in our community with children who are eligible to start school in 2025, please invite them along and remind them to enrol at CPPS so they can be part of this exciting transition. We also need to thank the Kindergaten team for all their work in having local preschools join us this term for visits and school readiness acitvities.

NAIDOC Week Celebrations

The students and teachers at CPPS had so much fun celebrating Naidoc Week this term! We spent the day participating in Indigenous sports games which involved lots of collaboration and teamwork and some students even had their faces painted with ochre. We loved that we were able to learn more about the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture in a fun and interactive way. In our classrooms we read some Indigenous stories and completed some fun art activities.

Education Week

Thank you to all the families who joined us in Week 3 to celebrate Education Week under this year’s inspiring theme, Ignite your potential. We held open classrooms, and it was wonderful to see so many parents taking the opportunity to step into our learning spaces. Students were excited to share their learning and proudly engage in reading activities alongside their parents. The energy across the school was uplifting, and it was a true reflection of the positive partnerships we have between home and school. This special day was not only a celebration of our students and their achievements but also of the strength, diversity, and success of NSW public education.

Sports Team Success

Congratulations to our teams for their outstanding involvement, representation, and successes!

Our Bocce Team – Reached the State Finals and finished 5th overall which is an outstanding achievement. While the students were naturally a little disappointed, they should be incredibly proud of their efforts, teamwork, and commitment throughout the competition.

Netball Teams - Our Junior Netball team had a fantastic season, finishing 5th on the ladder after the finals. The Senior Netball team also showed great determination and teamwork, finishing 4th overall. Both teams should be very proud of their efforts and the way they represented our school this season.

Girls Soccer Teams - Our Junior Girls Soccer team had an outstanding season, finishing 1st place—an incredible achievement that reflects their hard work, skill, and teamwork. Our Senior Girls Soccer team also represented our school with great determination, finishing 7th overall. While the results were different, both teams should feel proud of their commitment, effort, and the way they demonstrated sportsmanship throughout the season.

Boys Soccer Teams - Congratulations to our Junior Boys PSSA Soccer Team for their outstanding achievement of winning the 2025 PSSA Competition. They did this with immense skill, being the only team to remain undefeated in every round! A big shout-out also goes to our Senior Boys Team, who put in a fantastic effort to finish third in their competition. We are very proud of both teams for representing our school with such skill and sportsmanship.

Reading Comprehension Professional Learning for Teachers

This term, our focus on strengthening reading comprehension continues, with classroom teachers engaging in professional learning to further develop how they explicitly teach comprehension strategies. Teachers are released from class to take part in this professional learning, giving them time to reflect on their practice, build new skills, and work together to plan effective teaching programs. This work is grounded in research-informed approaches and is designed to ensure that every student is not only learning to read, but also developing the deeper skills needed to understand, interpret, and enjoy texts. By investing in our teachers, we are ultimately investing in our students—helping them grow as confident readers who can apply their comprehension skills across all areas of learning.

Eco Learning Sessions

Thank you to our families for engaging so positively in our school this term. We’ve already hosted several Eco Learning sessions, including Stage 2 Arabic, Stage 3 Homework, and Stage 1 XXX. These sessions are designed as a research-informed way for you to support your child’s learning at home in ways that connect directly with how they are being taught at school. They also provide a wonderful opportunity to connect with other parents—sharing successes, ideas, and strategies for navigating some of the common challenges children face. We truly value your involvement and encourage you to keep an eye out for future sessions, as they are an important and rewarding part of our school community.

Important Crossing Reminder – Edgar Street

As explained in the Term 2 and 3 newsletters, a teacher will no longer be present at the Edgar Street pedestrian lights, as this gate is not used as an exit point from our school. This change has now been phased in, giving families time to speak with their children about safe road practices. Please take a moment to remind your child about safe crossing at pedestrian lights, including waiting for the signal before crossing.

We look forward to the remaining events this term and hope you are able to join us for some of these. Remember, our school community is strongest when we work together—please don’t hesitate to reach out if you need support in any way.

Kind regards,

Mr Richards and the CPPS staff
