PTSA/Foundation Message
Dear Newcomb Families,
We’re off and running! The PTSA and Foundation are firing on all cylinders! As you’ll see below, volunteers are shaping a host of events, experiences and fundraisers for our great school. Upcoming Encanto Movie Night, Book Fair, and ReadAThon are coming to life thanks to amazing committee chairs like Drea, Diedre, Ally and Lindsey (highlighted below in our Volunteer Spotlight), and all the fantastic parent volunteers assisting them. Fall Fest, Trunk-or-Treat, the REFLECTIONS Art Exhibition, NAF golf outing and Friday Night Fever benefit party are also ramping up. The PTSA’s primary fundraiser of the year launches September 29 with Read-A-Thon. This single event generates upwards of $50,000 annually for student programs, school and community activities, field trips and various school supplies and needs . Help us knock it out of the park!
There are lots of ways to contribute:
- Become a PTSA member
- Support the Newcomb Academy Foundation
- Volunteer at an event
- Attend school activities!
Looking forward to seeing you on campus!
Your PTSA and Foundation

"Encanto" was the theme: In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month and the upcoming movie night, Friday - Sept. 26.

PTSA Scholarships
2024/25 Honorees
Last year, the PTSA initiated a new scholarship program for Newcomb alums graduating from high school and moving on to college. This past June, we awarded our first two scholarships. Recipients were Diego Castillo, who will be attending California Polytechnic San Luis Obispo, and Sam Al-Mulla, who will be studying at Championship University. Both received $500 awards.
The PTSA congratulates Diego and Sam on their achievements in high school and wishes them all the best as they embark upon grand new chapters in the ongoing story of their educations.

ReadAThon: Diedre Cox
ReadAThon begins on Monday 9/29 and runs through Sunday, 10/19. The Pledgestar site will go live the weekend before ReadAThon starts. Our goal this year is to raise $50,000 to cover field trips and the Ground Ed garden program, as well as other PTSA events like MS Jeopardy. ReadAThon is the PTSA’s primary fundraiser. Individuals and classes can win prizes for most funds raised and most minutes read. Every participant receives a small prize for signing up, and we will randomly select daily prize winners. The only costs for the fundraiser are $1,195 for the hosting platform, and for prizes.
ReadAThon: Ally Bernardo
Hello Newcomb friends! My name is Ally Bernardo and I am so excited to co-chair the Read-a-Thon event year! I have three children at Newcomb, who love to read and participate in this event every year! I hope the Read-a-Thon will inspire more of you to pick up a book and read. Reading is magical!
Scholastic Book Fair: Lindsey Canizales
Hi! I’m Lindsey Canizales. This is my ninth year as a proud Newcomb mom, my second year chairing the Scholastic Book Fair. Book Fair is one of the most exciting weeks on campus. It’s so fun to see the excitement on the students faces when they enter the library and see it transformed into a book store. There is a magic in the air that only books can provide. This year’s book fair is October 6-10th, and we can’t wait to welcome each and every student to the book store and encourage their love of reading.
