Principal's Message Principal's Message

Hello, Families,

It's hard to believe there is only one week left of the 2025-26 school year. We look forward to finishing strong next week! This past week included our final Town Halls where were celebrated students with perfect April attendance as well as those who were Safe, Helpful, and Caring. Our districtwide 4th and 5th grade EL students enjoyed their field trip to Hannah Park. Miss Obey's class showcased their reading fluency in their Readers Theatre performances. And our fifth graders visited ZipZone Adventures! We also welcomed a lot of our new families who will have a kindergartener in 2026-27 during Tuesday's Kindergarten Kickoff. It was another wonderful week!

Important Reminders:

  • Title I Survey: Please take a moment to complete our survey down below to help support our school programs.

  • Cafeteria Balance: If you have an outstanding balance, please settle your account right away.

Enjoy your weekend,

Sharon Suriano

Information from the Clinic

All medications MUST be picked up by an adult by the end of the last day of school (Friday, May 22nd). ALL medications left behind on this date will be disposed of at the end of the day. If you need to make other arrangements for your child’s medication, please contact your school nurse directly.

Please note:

Gahanna-Jefferson Public School (in accordance with Ohio Law) requires that a new medication form be completed each school year. Each medication requires a separate form. Please contact your child’s healthcare provider to have the form(s) completed if your child must have medication available to them during the school day next year. In the fall, all new medication MUST be brought to the school by an adult. For safety reasons, students CANNOT transport medication to/from school. In addition, ALL medication must be correctly labeled and in the original container.

GJPS’s medication policy as well as all medication forms can be read and downloaded from the Gahanna-Jefferson website:

Is it already mid-May? We can’t believe how quickly the year has gone, with your students so busy in our arts classrooms. Many thanks to our EL colleagues and other staff for putting on We Are the World, a cultural event celebrating our students and families through artwork, music, games, crafts, and delicious food!

This summer, there are many great opportunities to pursue art and music in our community. Your student might be interested in GJPS’ Art Enrichment Program held at High Point Elementary, or the Creekside Blues and Jazz Festival for great live music!

Most importantly, we hope your art and music journey this year has challenged your creativity, grown your skills, and helped you see new perspectives from the world around you. August will be here before we know it, and we’ll get right back into the swing of things, setting our goals for a new year!

Questions to ask your student:

  • What was your favorite project in art class this year, and what made it special?

  • Which song or game from music class sticks out in your memory, and what makes it so memorable?

  • What do you think more people need to understand about art and music?

At Gahanna-Jefferson Public Schools, we have traditionally used an August 1 cutoff for kindergarten eligibility.

Beginning with the 2026–2027 school year, new state legislation creates a single, statewide standard. Children must be five years old on or before the first day of instruction in the enrolling district to be eligible for kindergarten. For GJPS, this means children must be five years old on or before August 20, 2026 to be eligible for kindergarten registration.

Registration for new GJPS kindergarten students for the 2026-27 school year is open.
