Dear Husky Families! 🐾

As we step into April, we are filled with renewed energy and excitement—especially as we warmly welcome back our incredible support staff! Your presence has been deeply missed, and our school community feels whole again with your return. Thank you for all that you do to support our students, staff, and families every day.

We’re also thrilled to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our basketball teams, two who brought home silver medals in the divisional championships! Our third team made it to the Bronze medal game. Congratulations to all the athletes for their hard work and dedication. A huge thank you goes out to our amazing coaches, supportive teachers, and the parents who cheered, drove, organized, and made this season such a success. Go Huskies!

Our Grade 9 students and families took their first exciting step toward the Grade 9 Farewell with our initial planning meeting. We are looking forward to creating a truly special celebration in June. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported the Treat Trolley—it has raised a substantial amount of money to support the legacy gift and the evening celebration; the whole kit and caboodle!

We are also incredibly grateful to our School Council, who continue to work tirelessly toward fundraising for our exciting playground upgrade. Thank you to all the families who have generously donated—your support is bringing us closer to making this long-awaited improvement a reality for our students and the community!

Meanwhile, our Leadership class has been busy organizing creative and meaningful Husky Hours, recently highlighting both the Pink Shirt Day anti-bullying campaign and the Power of Laughter. With the help of our grade 6 students, the “Power of Laughter” assembly left us all in stitches—especially their synchronized swimming routine, which was hilariously unforgettable!

As we move through this final stretch before Spring Break, we want to wish all of our families a safe, restful, and rejuvenating time away. Enjoy the well-deserved break!

With appreciation,

Ms. Rita Marie Rahn (Principal)

Mrs. Shanda Dupras (Vice Principal)

Meeting Our School Improvement Goals Support - Success - Engagement Meeting Our School Improvement Goals Support - Success - Engagement

All school divisions in Alberta create a plan for improvement. Schools then set goals that align with this plan. In Foothills School Division and at Heritage Heights, we are working on Support, Success, and Engagement for all learners. The following sections reflect our work within the school and community. Healthy Eating and Your Childs Mental Health 🍎

The effect that food choices have on mental health is sometimes called the ‘Food-Mood Connection.’ There is not very much research in this area; we don’t know all the answers, but we do know a few things.

We know that:

  • A healthy diet may help your child feel better emotionally and physically
  • Brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) such as serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine affect the way we think, feel, and act.
  • Food choices can influence our sleep schedules
  • Food and brain chemicals work together to give us energy throughout the day
  • Eating a variety of healthy foods is important for mental health

As a parent, you can help your child/teen to:

  • Eat breakfast every day and avoid skipping meals. If mornings are too busy, maybe try preparing breakfast for the week ahead of time.
  • Limit highly processed foods, fast food, high sugar drinks, and high fat, sugar, and salt snack foods.
  • Drink water! Dehydration affects your energy level and mood.
  • Limit caffeine from coffee, tea, soft drinks, and energy drinks. These drinks can make you feel anxious, nervous, or depressed. Limiting them may also help promote better sleep.
  • Be involved and take part in family meals. This helps create family connections. For example- all eating dinner together at the table.
  • Learn what to eat, how much to eat and how to prepare healthy foods.

😂 Husky Hour: Power of Laughter 😂 Husky Hour: Power of Laughter

This month’s Husky Hour assembly had everyone smiling as we celebrated the Power of Laughter! Students and staff came together to enjoy skits, silly games, and joyful moments that reminded us how laughter brings us closer and brightens our day.

A highlight of the assembly was a heartwarming memory video, showcasing all the amazing activities and special moments we've shared as a school since January—it was a wonderful reminder of how much we've grown and celebrated together.

The Grade 6 classes stole the show, leaving the entire school in stitches with their hilarious synchronized swimming routine (on dry land, of course!).

Laughter truly is the best medicine, and this Husky Hour proved just how powerful it can be! 😄🎉

It's Not Magic... It's Science! 🧪 It's Not Magic... It's Science! 🧪

Grade 4 Science

After hearing countless, “Wow! It’s like magic!”, reactions during classroom science experiments, the Grade 4 teachers were inspired to host a special event: “It’s Not Magic… It’s Science!” Students dove into researching their own science experiments, exploring the fascinating principles behind them, and then shared their discoveries with the class. From bubbling chemistry and mysterious magnetism to the wonders of physics and botany, the room buzzed with curiosity and excitement.

The verdict? Science is seriously cool!
