Reading Across BHS - Summer Reading at Barrington High School! Reading Across BHS - Summer Reading at Barrington High School!

It's Summer Reading for Fun! And Extra Credit!

Find a Reading Partner and Click here for information how to earn extra credit with your summer reading

Thanks so much to Barrington High School Senior Ryan Barney who worked with Dr. Costa and Dr. Blanchard to revise and lead the BHS Summer Reading Re-Design at BHS to successfully complete her Senior Project and include student survey data in the Summer Reading program.

According to the American Library Association, the benefits of summer reading for students include:

  • encouragement that reading become a lifelong habit

  • reluctant readers can be drawn in by the activities

  • reading over the summer helps children keep their skills up

For questions about summer reading please email Librarian Dr. Costa costas@barringtonschools.org or English Department Chairperson Dr. Blanchard blanchardk@barringtonschools.org

Special Thank You to Barrington High School Parents' Association for Library funding for summer reading books!

Write Where You Are is collecting stories, written and recorded, from RI students in grades 7-12.

Here is a prompt from WriteRI

Tip #1

Introduce us to your place or take us on a walk through your neighborhood. You might choose to walk, ride a bike, skateboard, take a bus or use a car. Tell us how to get there and what we might find when we do. Do you talk to anyone? Let us hear their voices. We want to hear, smell and see what you experience.

Submissions need to WriteRI by Thursday, June 30th. Guidelines and submission information can be found here. Students can record their stories at home (click here for recording tips).
