CSD Weekly Update

Dear Parents & Guardians of K-8 Students,

After careful consideration, Centennial School District has made the decision to update its content filter to block student access to YouTube videos on all K-8 devices beginning August 27, 2025.

While YouTube can be used as a learning tool, we have found that it can also be a distraction for students. In addition, if students are unsupervised while accessing YouTube, they could inadvertently be exposed to inappropriate content. While students will not be able to access YouTube videos on their devices, teachers will still have access to YouTube to share content with students using their classroom projection system when educationally appropriate. Additionally, teachers may choose to whitelist specific educational Youtube videos for independent viewing to help students with extension/ remediation at home. In that instance, only teacher-approved YouTube resources will be accessible.

Mark your calendars! On August 25th from 4:30–6:30 p.m., the CSD Farmers Market will host a special back-to-school event at Klinger Middle School.

Students from all local schools are invited to stop by and pick out a brand-new backpack and school supplies—just in time for the new school year!

Thanks to the generous support of MAGIC Charities Foundation, nearly 300 backpacks will be available, free of charge, while supplies last.

We are excited to share that we have selected two exceptional leaders to serve as Willow Dale Elementary School’s new Principal and Assistant Principal! Ms. Katie Gill will be joining us as Principal, and Mr. Chris Oswald will be joining us as Assistant Principal, both beginning in September. To ensure a smooth start to the school year, Dr. Michael Devitt will serve as Interim Principal and Mrs. Donna McCormick-Miller as Interim Assistant Principal until Ms. Gill and Mr. Oswald officially begin.

Each year, more and more people and organizations are turning to our District to help get the message out about various activities, events, fundraisers, etc. The intent of this process is to support student achievement and to provide mutual assistance and benefit through shared information. Our district spends a great deal of time collecting, reviewing, and posting flyers to the District eFolder. The District no longer is posting eFlyers to any social media outlets or the District cable channel. You may refer to Policy 913 for additional information.
