๐Ÿ“ฃHello Families!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Thank you so much for ensuring your child attends school regularly and for not taking them out early each day. I encourage you to review the research below regarding the connection between attendance and academic performance.

Black History Month is celebrated in February to honor the birthdays of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, both of whom were significant figures in the abolition of slavery.

We invite you to our 4th-grade African American Wax Museum on the 25th and our Black History Program at 9:00 AM on the 28th.

This year's national theme is "African Americans and Labor." Let's come together to celebrate Black History. The intention has never been to dictate or limit the exploration of the Black experience but to bring to the publicโ€™s attention important developments that merit emphasis.

Visit asalh.org for more information regarding the history of this holiday.

Have a fabulous week!

Research Regarding School Attendance Research Regarding School Attendance

zoom_out_map

Research shows that regular school attendance is strongly linked to academic success.Students who miss a substantial number of school days tend to struggle more academically and be at greater risk of falling behind their peers.

Students with a high number of absences also are more likely to drop out of school, which is linked to poorer life and health outcomes in adulthood.

We are not just "blowing smoke" we care about your child and want them to succeed in school. But we can't do it without your help.

Explanation

  • Learning: Regular attendance allows students to participate in hands-on learning activities, which helps them understand the material.

  • Engagement: Students who are engaged in class are more likely to do well academically.

  • Test scores: Missing school can lead to lower test scores and lower grades.

  • Graduation: Chronic absenteeism in middle and high school can increase the risk of not graduating.

  • College: Attendance is a strong predictor of college grades.

Facts

  • A U.S. Department of Education study found that students who attend regularly are 1.7 times more likely to be proficient in reading and math.

  • A meta-analysis of 85 studies found a strong positive relationship between attendance and achievement.

  • A study found that missing 10 math classes in secondary school reduced math test scores by 7%.
