Think the Unthinkable, Reach the Unreachable!

Dear Coupeville families, neighbors, and friends,

On September 1, every adult who works in this district will be in one room together before a single student arrives. Bus drivers and mechanics. Cooks and custodians. Paraeducators, office staff, nurses, technology, maintenance, coaches, and teachers. All of us, same room, same morning; because a school does not become a place kids feel safe one classroom at a time.

Here is what we will be working on, since it is your district and your school year too. For three years we have been building on an idea from the research on hope: that hope is not a feeling but a system; a clear goal, a real path, and the belief that we are the ones who will get there. This year we ask it to carry weight. You should also know something about your schools that rarely makes a newsletter. The single strongest lever available to any district is not a program we can purchase. It is collective efficacy: the shared conviction among the adults that what they do together genuinely changes outcomes for kids. It cannot be bought or installed. It is built by people who choose to do this work in this town, and we have those people.

**Two things ahead need your input.

1. We are taking a hard look at our aging facilities and have developed options - not a decision. Information describing what we are considering can be found on our Facilities Planning Task Force page, and there will be real opportunities to ask questions and tell us what you think. You can find a feedback survey and you are invited to a community information session on Sept. 1st at 6 p.m. at the elementary school.

We Could Use Your Help:

2. Our strategic plan also expires in 2027, and we begin rewriting it in September. Both belong to this community rather than to my office, and we will be asking families, students, staff, and neighbors without children in our schools to weigh in. The ask for your feedback is genuine: we would rather hear a hard question in October than a fair objection in April. Please let us know if you are interested in begin on this committee that will meet once a month for 6-8 meetings. We will be sending out more information soon on how you can join.

To our families: thank you for trusting us with your children. To the people who make this district run: thank you for coming back. A lone wolf is a myth. Real ones do not survive on their own.

With gratitude and real optimism for the year ahead,

Shannon Leatherwood

Transportation News (Repeat) Transportation News (Repeat)

Dear Coupeville Families,

I want to give you a heads-up about our change to an updated version of the app you use to register for transportation and track your student’s school bus. This summer, our software company listened to suggestions and requests made by users and worked hard to put together a new app called EZ Arrival.

What this means for you:

  • It combines many of the different features of our previous apps, Bus Quest and EZ A2B, into one streamlined tool.

  • EZ Arrival still continues to provide real-time bus tracking as before and now provides enhanced proactive parent notifications, added a broad foreign language support, and many other upgraded features.

  • Best of all, your existing account and settings will work automatically in EZ Arrival; no new registration or additional setup required!

  • The transition is simple — same login, same password, no re-registration.

Important Notice to Families:

  • All students who wish to ride a school bus to or from school are required to register for services. Due to the large number of changes to the routes this year, no previous year riders have been rolled over for the coming year. You can register via the EZ Arrival app, visit the Transportation Department page of the District website, or contact the Transportation Department Dispatcher directly.

  • We have limited space on buses so students needing services must have a regular riding schedule of at least 1-2 times every 2 weeks.

  • You can find additional information regarding all transportation related services on the newly updated Transportation Department page of the district website.

To download EZ Arrival:

  1. Write down your current login information, if you have one, and then uninstall previous versions of Bus Quest or EZ A2B.

  2. Next search for and download “EZArrival” in the Apple App Store or Google Play Store

  3. Log in with your current EZ A2B username and password — same login, no new account needed.

  4. If you need to create a new account simply follow the few quick steps once you click on the “Create an Account” in the app.

Welcome Back, Coupeville Families!

To all of our returning families and those joining us for the first time — welcome! Our Food Service team is excited to start serving you again and has truly missed seeing your faces over the summer.

The School Farm is looking fabulous, and we can’t wait to fill our salad bars with fresh cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, and other peak summer veggies. Don’t miss the last few weeks of School Farm Days, every Thursday from 12–3 p.m., for a chance to visit the School Farm and sample some of the veggies that have made their debut a little early!

Keep an eye on the Nutrition Services website and follow us on social media @connectedfoodprogram1 for updates, including September’s menus, coming soon.
