Principal's Message
Dear Bancroft Families,
What an incredible privilege it is to join the Bancroft Elementary community as your new principal! Over the last month, I've been struck by the warmth and dedication that defines this special place. In talking and learning alongside building and district educators, hearing stories from families and staff, and just walking around the Bancroft campus, it is clear that this is a caring and dedicated community.
As we prepare for the joy of seeing our building filled with the energy of learning, the excitement of discovery, and the sounds of children exploring concepts and ideas, I would like to share that I believe education is truly a collaborative process. The partnership between home and school allows us to create an environment where our students feel valued, heard, and continue to develop the curiosity and confidence they need to succeed.
I'm honored to build upon the strong traditions established here while working alongside you to write the next chapter of Bancroft's story.
Sincerely,
Gerry Weinhardt

I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer! We are so excited for another amazing year here at Bancroft! The start of the school year can bring some apprehension as we make the transition from a more flexible summer schedule to the school year. Here are some tips and tricks to help the school year get off to a great start!
Visual Schedule: Create a visual schedule so that your child knows exactly what they need to do each morning.
Plan Ahead: Do as much as you can the night before. Lay out clothes, pack lunches, and organize backpacks.
Stay Calm and Hold the Boundary: Acknowledge the feeling and hold the boundary. “I know it feels hard to go to school some mornings. I am here for you and we still need to get dressed. Would you like me to stay in your room while you get dressed or give you some space?”
Set a “No Screen Time” Policy”: Screen use can be difficult for a child to separate from. Institute a screen free morning policy to eliminate this added stressor from your morning routine.
Zoom Out: Help your child understand the difference between the first day, the first week and the first month. The first day is always the hardest and each day and each week will get easier.
Keep the Fun Going: Plan at least one fun activity for the first week of school - this doesn’t have to be big, just something for your child to look forward to at the end of their first week of school.
Sneak a Peak: Meet your child’s teacher, take a tour of the classroom and help your child have a little more predictability on the first day of school. A reminder that Sneak a Peak is on August 21st at 2:00pm. We hope to see you there!
