Regular attendance is one of the most important ways families can support their childโ€™s success at school. When students are at school consistently and arrive on time, they are able to stay connected to classroom instruction, build strong routines, and keep up with their learning.

We understand that there are times when a student needs to be absent due to illness, appointments, family emergencies, or other circumstances. When your child is absent, please make sure you contact the school to verify the absence.

Whenever possible, please also provide documentation for the absence, such as a doctor or dentist note, funeral announcement, appointment verification, or other supporting documentation. Providing this information helps us maintain accurate attendance records and properly document excused absences.

Thank you for partnering with us to make attendance a priority. Every day at school is another opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed! ๐Ÿพ

๐Ÿพ Parent Volunteers Wanted! ๐Ÿพ Parent Volunteers Wanted!

It takes a whole community to make Moore Elementary a great place for our students, and we would love to have more of our families involved!

We are always looking for parent and guardian volunteers, especially during our busiest part of the day from 11:00 a.m.โ€“1:00 p.m. Extra adults during this time provide additional support and extra eyes in our lunchroom and on the playground, helping us create a safe and positive environment for all students.

We are especially interested in parents or guardians who may be available to volunteer on a consistent, set schedule. Whether you can help one day each week or have another regular availability, we would love to hear from you!

If you are interested in becoming a Moore Elementary volunteer, please reach out to the school office so we can discuss available days, times, and volunteer requirements.

Thank you for helping us Work Together as a Community and making Moore an even better place for our Panthers! ๐Ÿพ

๐ŸŽ Second Grade

Second grade is ready for another great month of learning!

โž• Math: Our focus will be on building addition skills and learning strategies for adding within 100.

๐Ÿ“š Reading: Students will read stories in which characters face challenges and learn important lessons. We will practice identifying the challenge, how the character responds, and what lesson is learned.

โœ๏ธ Writing: We will begin working on opinion writing, with a focus on using key words and phrases to clearly state and support our opinions.

๐Ÿ”ค Phonics: Students will review digraph sounds and practice using them to strengthen their reading and spelling skills.

โญ Character Trait: Our Capturing Kidsโ€™ Hearts character trait for October is Self-Direct. We will encourage students to take responsibility for their choices, stay focused, and make positive decisions throughout their day.

We are excited to see all the growth our second graders will make this month!

3rd Grade Highlights 3rd Grade Highlights

Third grade has been busy learning and growing! A few weeks ago, we enjoyed our first field trip of the year to Farm Education Day. Even though the weather didnโ€™t cooperate, our students still had a great time exploring the farm and learning about agriculture!

๐Ÿ“š Reading & Writing:
This month, students learned how to choose appropriate books from our classroom libraries and practiced listening and responding to stories. We have been working on identifying the main idea and supporting details in nonfiction texts, as well as identifying nouns and verbs. Students are also learning how prefixes and suffixes can help them read and understand longer words. We practiced our partnership routines and worked on strengthening our writing skills by responding to writing prompts.

โž— Math:
We are wrapping up our first math unit! Students have been learning about multiplication and how to find products using equal groups, number lines, and arrays. We have also started building our understanding of division by solving problems using equal sharing and arrays.

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Social Studies:
In Social Studies, we are learning all about Michigan! Students are exploring Michiganโ€™s geography and learning about our state symbols.

We are proud of how much our third graders have already accomplished and are excited to see their learning continue throughout the year!

21st Century 21st Century

Our 21st Century students had an exciting adventure at the Detroit Tigers game! ๐Ÿฏโšพ A group of our 3rdโ€“5th grade students had the opportunity to visit Comerica Park, cheer on the Tigers, and enjoy a fun-filled day together.

To make the experience even more special, each student received a brand-new Tigers orange shirt to wear to the game! ๐Ÿงก The kids had an absolute blast and made memories that we know theyโ€™ll be talking about for a long time.

A huge thank you to our 21st Century program for providing our students with such a fun and memorable experience! Go Tigers! ๐Ÿฏโšพ

School Expectations School Expectations

๐Ÿพ PAWS Expectations: Same Language, Same Message!

Families, please continue reviewing our PAWS expectations at home. When students hear the same language at school and at home, it helps reinforce positive choices and builds a strong, consistent school community.

Our Panthers show PRIDE with PAWS by:

  • โค๏ธ Practice Kindness โ€” Treat others with care, empathy, and respect.
  • ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Act Safely โ€” Make decisions that protect ourselves and others from harm.
  • ๐Ÿค Work Together โ€” Include others and help everyone feel like they belong.
  • โญ Show Accountability โ€” Our choices matter, and we take ownership of our actions.

Try using these PAWS words in everyday conversations at home: โ€œHow can you Practice Kindness?โ€ โ€œIs that an Act Safely choice?โ€ โ€œHow can we Work Together?โ€ or โ€œHow can you Show Accountability?โ€

Thank you for partnering with us to help our Panthers Show PRIDE with PAWS every day! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’™
