Dear Yucca Elementary School Families,
We're kicking off the fall strong here at Yucca! Our teachers and students are diving deep into English Language Arts and Mathematics. We're focusing hard on helping every child become a confident, independent reader and an amazing mathematician. Seeing their growth and curiosity every day is truly inspiring!

Join Us for Our Fall Festival & Literacy Night!
Mark your calendars! We're thrilled to invite you to our Fall Festival and Literacy Night on Thursday, October 23rd, starting at 5:00 PM right here at Yucca. A huge shoutout goes to our Yucca PTA for organizing this event. We will also have Mesa Verde Enterprises passing out candy, a helicopter on the grass field from Native Air Ambulance Transport ๐ will be passing out candy outside, and a Clown making a special appearance! The Adventurer's Realm will be here with a painting activity of small figures. The Adventure's Realm has an upcoming event that is noted in this newsletter. We will need donations of small cakes, cupcakes, or plates of cookies for the cake walk. Please start sending these baked goods to the front office on October 20th. THANK YOU!
Our Fall Festival & Literacy Night is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate reading and connect as a school community. The event itself is free! There will be a small cost for any food purchased and to participate in the cake walk. This money goes back to PTA for much needed items for students & teachers. We can't wait to see you there for an evening of fun and literacy! We know that we have extended family members who would like to support our Yucca PTA & are not able to attend the Fall Festival/Literacy Night. If you are able, you may donate to PTA at the attached QR code. Donations support our students and activities taught by the staff. Students are encouraged to dress up to this event in a costume.
Our first Quarterly Awards Ceremony is on October 27th at 1:30 pm here at Yucca. We will be sending out information to parents with an invitation to attend. We will ask parents/guardians to preregister with Ms. Noellen prior to the event. Adults will need to have their IDs in order to come into the school. Note that not all students receive academic achievement awards.
We are always striving to improve our student attendance. Please send your child to school everyday, unless he/she is ill. Contact us to inform us of student illness to excuse your child. Thank you for your help!
Warmly,
Christina Trujillo, PhD
Principal

Fourth Grade Students & Teachers Rocking their "Pink Out" Clothing
Ms. Kat's 2nd grade class had a fun day of painting & throwing paint on an area that needed to be improved. Their art creativity made it such a wonderful experience! Throwing paint was an incredible way to express yourself!๐จ๐ฉ๐ปโ๐จ๐ง๐ปโ๐จ Thank you, Ms. Kat!
Working with Paint is an Art Form
The most famous artist known for throwing, flinging, and dripping paint onto his canvases is Jackson Pollock (1912โ1956).
His signature technique, which he developed around 1947, involved placing an unstretched canvas on the floor and using sticks, hardened brushes, and even syringes to pour and splatter paint across the surface. This style became known as "action painting," as it emphasized the physical act and movement of the artist during the creation process.
A note on history: While Pollock is the most famous figure associated with this technique, some art historians point to the artist Janet Sobel as having created "all-over" drip paintings a few years before Pollock began his famous work.
