Vocal Music Notes #3.25
Emerson Singers, Dancers, & Actors February 14 - 21, 2025
🎶🎵Music Notes from Mrs. Broeker🎵🎶
Hopefully you had a chance to see Maine South's wonderful production of "The Enchanted Bookshop" last weekend. The Maine East Production of "Matilda," featuring some of our middle school students, is rapidly approaching. Alum, Samantha Mayer, is starring in "Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus" in Des Plaines. Get your tickets soon!
Despite students not being in school on Friday, February 14, we will still have rehearsal from 3:00 - 5:00 as we have in past years. We need the rehearsal. There will not be an activity bus today on Thursday, February 13 or Friday, February 14. Students should arrange for carpools.
Please check the call list, not as many students are being called for this rehearsal
- although they are still welcome!
Starting Tuesday, February 18, all company members have rehearsal from 3:00 - 4:00 every day except Wednesday, February 19 when rehearsal ends at 3:30 PM.
Leads will continue to rehearse until 5:00 PM. (except Wednesday, February 19)
Ticket links will be emailed to the leads on Friday and the rest of the company on Saturday! Buy early, ticket often sell -out!

Musical Raffle Prizes Needed
Cast and Crew families! We are looking for eight families who will purchase/assemble raffle prizes. Proceeds will go to musical and chorus at Emerson (last year we raised over $1200!).
Please use this link to sign up for a basket today (should take you to the “raffle basket” tab). Note that a group of Emerson Alumni (and their parents) have generously agreed to prepare two school raffle baskets, which we’ll use to raise awareness about the show. Thank you!
To sign up:
- Pick a theme (ideas start in row 15 if you are stuck). Put it in Column A.
- Decide what items you’ll order (see below for guidance on cost and items). Put that in Column B.
- Put your family name in Column C.
- Note: You may want to sign up for a basket on the day your child is performing. The cast (red or blue) for the show is in Column E for reference. Baskets are due at call time that day – we sell tickets BEFORE the show starts and read the winning number at the end of the show.
A few notes:
- Please make sure your basket is in a container and wrapped (see photo below). This makes it easier to market and transport.
- It usually works best to have an “anchor” item (something bigger that you put in the center) and 3-5 smaller items for visual appeal.
- If your basket includes a gift card, make sure it is visible and the amount is clearly indicated.
- Please make a tag with the name of your basket and the included items for easy display (be creative!).
- Generally, we raise $100-$150 a basket, so please don’t spend more than $50 on the items you include (i.e., $30 on items and a $20 gift card is a popular approach)
- Your purchase is a donation to the program; you won’t be reimbursed.

🎸Notes about the Music Classes🥁
Our Vocal Power Showcase, A Celebration of Song is next Friday, February 21!! Students learned how to correctly hold a microphone this week in preparation for their performance. The Musical Theatre Workshop Classes are also learning about microphone use, scenery changes, costuming, and prop design.
Music 6 studied International music this week. In addition to learning about the music of Asia, Africa, South America, and Europe, students selected a country to investigate. Take a look at two remarkable presentations, one featuring the music of Poland, and the other, Australia.
Show Choir and 7/8 Singers met this week before school. Show Choir has a robust attendance. 7/8 Singers is now a quintet! Thank you to the amazing singers who start my day off with their wonderful singing!
