Welcome Preschool & Kindergarten August 26th
Welcome to the 26-27 School Year
Welcome to the 2026–2027 school year! We are excited to welcome both new and returning families to Rogers Park Elementary. Our staff is busy preparing for an incredible year of learning, growth, and discovery.
If you have not yet registered your student, please do so as soon as possible. Student registration is essential, as it helps us finalize class sizes and grade-level teacher assignments. Our teachers return this Friday and will begin preparing their classrooms to welcome our amazing students.
This year marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter as Rogers Park opens our Developmental Preschool Program. We are committed to providing engaging, hands-on learning experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving. We look forward to partnering with our new families as we open our new program together.
We also encourage you to get involved by joining our Parent Teacher Association (PTA). An active PTA helps strengthen our school community and supports many of the events and opportunities that make Rogers Park such a special place. PTA representatives will be available during our Ice Cream Social on Tuesday, August 18, from 2:00–3:00 p.m. We hope you'll stop by, learn more, and consider becoming involved.
Thank you for choosing Rogers Park Elementary. We are looking forward to a fantastic school year and can't wait to welcome our students back!
Warmly,
Mary Wood

What to Expect This Year
Reminders from Nurse Tonya
Vaccinations
Please be sure that all incoming Kindergarten students have all of their vaccinations prior to their first day of school. Students who are not vaccinated may not stay at school and will be sent home until they have received all vaccinations.
Donations
The nurse's office is asking for donations of children's clothing, size 5T to Youth L, for students to use a spares. Families may drop off donations at the front office.
PLC Mondays
Professional Learning Communities (PLC) is a research-based collaborative structure used by educators to continuously learn, improve, and adapt teaching methods to help improve student outcomes. ASD will be implementing this weekly 1 hour structure which will support the District’s Board goals around Reading, Math, and College, Career, and Life Readiness.
What is it? PLC's have been in the Anchorage School District since 2016 at the high school level. Consistent professional development and collaboration time is a valuable tool that will help teachers and school staff support and adjust to student learning needs. We believe that the hour dedicated to teacher learning and collaboration on Mondays will move the needle for student achievement and greatly benefit your student! PLC’s equals improved classroom experiences, which leads to better student outcomes.
PLC Monday Early Arrival Room - CLOSED
Over the past two years, we have had an early arrival room staffed to receive students who are arriving before 8:35 a.m. on PLC Mondays. Due to staffing reductions and programmatic changes, Rogers Park was not able to sustain an early arrival room on PLC Mondays this year.
On PLC Mondays, students may arrive to school at 8:35 a.m. for breakfast, but will not be permitted to enter the building before 8:35 a.m. We began sharing this message last school year and shared it regularly in our communications in order to give families ample time to make other arrangements. If you have questions or concerns, please reach out to Principal Wood at 907-742-4800.
Drop Off & Pick Up
Before School
Students who are eating breakfast may be dropped off as early as 7:35am. They will need to walk around the building to enter the cafeteria doors from the playground. Students not eating breakfast may go to the playground at 7:35am where there will be supervision until students line up at 7:50am.
Early Pick up
If you need to pick up your student early during the school day, please call the office at 907-742-4800 when you are on your way. Students may be picked up early until 2:15pm.
After school
The dismissal bell rings at 2:30 p.m. All students need to be picked up by 2:45pm unless attending a prearranged after school club.
Morning Arrival Reminders
- Parents/drivers, please park in the visitor parking spots when you bring your child(ren) into the school. Please do not park at the drop off curb as it causes congestion to the traffic flow.
- Parents/drivers, please be conscientious and move up as cars pull out of the curbside drop off.
- Parents/drivers, please have students exit on the right side door at the curb in the morning. The middle lane is continuously moving throughout the loop. Children who exit on the left side of the car are put directly into the moving lane of traffic.
- Parents/drivers, please do not park in handicap parking spots unless you are eligible to. Motorists are parking there for convenience and it is a hardship on drivers who need it.
Student Safety
Remember that the speed limit in both our drop of lane and our parking lot is 5 MPH. Please do not park on the crosswalk as the students have to walk in the road to get to the building. Thank you all for keeping our students safe!
Drop Off/Pick Up Loop Protocol
Bus Schedules
Bus transportation will start one hour later on PLC Mondays only. Check your bus route information on ParentConnect or try the new Stop Finder app for the exact time your stop will be picked up. School will end at 2:30 p.m. Monday - Friday.
