Greetings Viking Families,

The 2nd Quarter is underway, and students engaged in athletics, after school clubs and various activities. Congratulations to all our fall sports teams and to our marching band for a wonderful season. We look forward to the start of Winter Sports and Activities. Remember that we have free tutoring available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays 3:15-5:00pm in the library.

We are working on refreshing the iPads for 9th grade students. Each student will be required to return their current school-issued iPad and charger before receiving a new 11th generation iPad.

Important details:

Students must bring their current iPad (including the case and charging cord and block) on the assigned collection day.

  • The old device must be returned in order for the student to be issued a new iPad.
  • Students will receive a new 11th generation iPad with USB-C charging after their current device and charger has been returned.
  • If the student does not have a charger to return, they will be required to purchase a new fast charger at the cost of $10.00. There will be a form to fill out at the time of device pickup. This fee can be charged to the students account or paid in full with the North High Treasurer.

  • This replacement process helps ensure that all students have access to up-to-date technology to support their learning.

  • If your student has lost or damaged their current iPad, please send an email to North-TS@ops.org as soon as possible for next steps.

We continue to monitor tardies and attendance. We appreciate your support in helping students understand the importance of attending all of their scheduled classes, engaging in learning activities and completing their work. This is an important life skill our students need as they prepare for college and/or the world of work!

Students are faced with multiple stressors as they navigate high school. If you feel your student needs additional academic or emotional assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to their School Counselor, our School Social Worker, or their Administrator. We are all here to aid in each studentโ€™s success on this high school journey!

As always, we appreciate your continued support and involvement. If you have any questions, please call us 531-299-2700.

Go Vikings!

Recent Attendance Recognitions

Every week, we recognize 5 Vikings from every grade level who were on time to every class (0 tardies) the week prior. We also recognize 2 Vikings from every grade level who had perfect attendance (missed 0 minutes of instruction) the week prior. Prioritize attendance and YOU could be the next winner!

Recently, we also recognized some of our 10th grade Vikings who significantly improved their attendance since last school year! Way to go, Vikings!

If your student is going to be absent, please contact the attendance office at 531-299-2708 before 7:40a.m. Voicemail will be available to leave a message to include the studentโ€™s name and the reason for their absence. This is to ensure that every student is accounted for and for their safety.

Robotics Starts the Season by Bringing Home Some Hardware! ๐Ÿ†

On October 18, 2 of our teams competed at UNO Mavericks V5RC competition hosted by the UNO VEXU robotics team. Despite some early season struggles, both 1064A and 1064G stayed positive and competitive. 1064G finished the day ranked in the top 10 of the Skills Challenge. 1064G also won the Think Award. The Think Award recognizes a team's effective and consistent use of programming and design to solve game challenges. The coaches were told the judges (doctoral instructors at UNO) were extremely impressed with their understanding of and their doctoral level explanation of the their program.

This was the first competition held at UNO and it was run by, almost exclusively, by North High alumni! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

Learning Through Doing!

On October 25th 1064A competed at the Brownell Talbot V5RC competition. The amount of improvement the students of 1064A made in one week was amazing! The team improved in their Skills Challenge score as well as their on field match performance, more than doubling their wins from the week before and getting a first round win in the Elimination Rounds.

IMPORTANT: Cell Phone Expectations IMPORTANT: Cell Phone Expectations

PLEASE NOTE: All cell phones and earbuds/headphones must be off and away in all instructional areas of the building. This includes classrooms, the library, and anywhere learning is taking place. Students are not allowed to be on their phones when taking a pass from class. Students will be permitted to have their phones out during lunch and passing periods (as needed).

It is crucial that students come to school with charged iPads every day. Students will not be allowed to use their phones for class work.

Thank you for reinforcing this information with your student and partnering with North High.

Students attended the Chuck Hagel Symposium for Public Service at UNO. This was an opportunity to hear from former Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel and explore opportunities and careers in Public Service. Students felt inspired to continue to serve and it was refreshing to be in a community of other youth that cared about public service.
