Dear Bear Creek Families,
Way to go, Sahil! This past weekend he participated in the Math Pentathlon where he scored an 11 out of 15 possible points. What a tremendous accomplishment for our Bear Creek First Graders. Parents - we are looking for ways to support our students in advanced academics through Clubs and competitions. Stay tuned on how you can support Bear Creek students through PTA volunteerism.
BIG SHOUT OUT to Mr. Trey's 4th Grade Math Classes! Out of ALL 4th grade classrooms in Austin ISD, they were recognized for showing this highest Math Growth and Participation this year on Imagine Math. This is a tremendous achievement. When used with fidelity Imagine Learning and Imagine Math are wonderful programs to individually target growth for students in the areas of reading and math. These programs are typically accessible at home through your child's portal until the data roll over in late July or early August.
We had a successful STAAR Reading Day at Bear Creek! Attendance for STAAR grade levels was at 98%! Way to go. We love seeing our Cubs showcase their advanced reading skills. Thank you for the partnership with us as we education your children. Below are the remaining STAAR testing dates.
You may have noticed the large team working on our trees this week at Bear Creek. It was exciting to see almost a year of behind the scenes effort come to fruition this week. If you are not ware, the City of Austin work to protect its existing trees. Personally, I am very thankful for this. However, it means that tree removal and trimming must go through a long process. Please note that only dying or diseased trees were removed. Along with our Arborist, Austin Fire Department sent an expert on Wild Fire Management to walk the property behind the school and review conditions. The short answer is Bear Creek is rated at the highest level of safety! There are plans in discussion on how to remove the growth that is no environmentally beneficial and unsightly. These steps will aid in the creation a Nature Learning Area on property for our Cubs. Stay tuned for more information to come. This is a project that we will need to Go Slow to Go Fast. Each step of this endeavor is vetted with the appropriate agencies so that all progress is environmentally sound.

Just a reminder that we are a closed campus on STAAR testing days. If we have numerous STAAR make-ups, we may also need to close for the day after as well.
