A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Hello Montessori Families!
We are happy to have so many students biking to school this year! Please make sure to send your child with a bike lock. If a bike is unlocked and stolen, there is not much we can do.
Today's message is split into several parts below! I wanted to highlight the trip AP went on and invite all parents/guardians to attend the Wisconsin Montessori Association Conference, if you are interested and available! Please see below!
We are looking forward to welcoming you in for conferences tomorrow and Friday! Please find the link to the conference document here!
Have a great weekend!

AP Students at Camp Minikani!
Our AP (Adolescent Program - 7th and 8th grade) students spent Monday through Wednesday at Camp Minikani for an "immersion" trip. To understand Immersion, we look at how Dr. Maria Montessori viewed adolescence. In early childhood, the focus is on the physical and academic self. In adolescence, however, the focus shifts dramatically to the creation of the "social self." While traditional classrooms focus mainly on memorizing academic facts, Montessori Erdkinder (land-children) programs use Immersion weeks to shift the focus to real-world independence and community building. It is school in a new, intentionally designed environment.
Students are entirely responsible for the logistics of daily life. They plan budgets, purchase groceries, and cook every meal for the community. Through this, adolescents experience a profound realization: they are fully capable of taking care of themselves and others. Immersion functions as a micro-society. Students debate and vote on their own schedules. When conflicts or logistical issues arise, they must solve them together, actively practicing how a functioning, democratic society works.
While we still dedicate about six hours a day to traditional schoolwork, learning actually happens for 18 hours a day. For instance, science becomes navigating the outdoors. Education is no longer abstract; it is lived. Living together 24/7 forces teenagers to step outside their comfort zones. Without the distractions of home, they must support one another through shared challenges, ultimately forming an interdependent, empathetic community where every member is valued.
Montessori Erdkinder is designed to bridge the gap between childhood and adulthood. By stepping away from the traditional classroom, your student is transitioning into a confident, self-reliant citizen ready to take on the world.
