The Chipmunk Chat
August 20, 2025

🌰 MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Maple Glen Families,
We have had a fantastic first week of school, and our staff is excited to begin this new year with all of our amazing Chipmunks! Here are a few reminders for everyone:
-
PBIS Assembly & Spirit Day – Our first PBIS assembly and Spirit Day will take place next Friday, September 12. Students are encouraged to wear their MGES gear or school colors (red and black).
-
Pick-Up/Drop-Off Reminder – Parents should not use the bus loop for pick-up or drop-off unless your child is in the MCIU program. Please use the K–2 or 3–5 car lines, or park in the main or gravel lot.
-
Elementary Handbook – There was an issue with last week’s link to the handbook. The Elementary Student Handbook has been updated for the 2025–26 school year. We ask all parents/guardians to review the updates.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
Go Chipmunks!
Warmly,
Nicolas Perez
Principal

🍎 SCHOOL ANNOUNCEMENTS
🏠 FROM THE PTO
Message from PTO President Anna Dillon
As everyone is settling into a new school year, we are hard at work getting things finalized for registering for RunPTO (paying dues and class party money), organizing after school activities, lining up the class liaisons, and more. Keep an eye out for information shared in the coming weeks.
Future PTO communication update: We will still share brief summaries of our upcoming events through the Chipmunk Chat, but will be implementing a stand-alone source for all things PTO.
Stay tuned for more.
📣 DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION: REMINDERS
Student Attendance Expectations
To help families better understand attendance expectations for students, the district recently shared an attendance overview, which is also available on our website. The overview provides guidance for reporting absences, understanding excused vs. unexcused absences, and what happens when a student accumulates absences.
Join Us for Free Breakfast in the Cafeteria
Encourage your child to enjoy a free breakfast in the cafeteria each morning! Students should go directly to the cafeteria upon arrival before heading to their classrooms. View our daily breakfast menu at udsd.org/menus.
We are Hiring Playground/Cafeteria Aides
We are still hiring Playground & Cafeteria Aides to join our Cardinal Team. These are approximately three-hour shifts that follow the school calendar You can choose a regular schedule or be available as a substitute on an as-needed basis.
